Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between cement grout and epoxy grout?
Cement grout uses a Portland cement base and suits most wall and floor applications. Epoxy grout uses a resin base and resists stains, chemicals, and water absorption. Epoxy grout costs more but needs no sealer and suits wet areas and commercial kitchens.
Which grout is silica-free?
Luminous SSG is the only silica-free grout in this range. It also holds Green Tag certification for low environmental impact. Use it where you need to eliminate respirable silica dust during mixing and application.
Which grout can I walk on the fastest?
Mapei Ultracolour Plus allows foot traffic in three hours, the fastest in this range. It is also the only grout without Portland cement, which eliminates efflorescence risk. Most cement-based grouts need 24 hours before traffic.
Which grout is best for wide joints?
Ardex WJ50 fills joints up to 50 mm wide, the widest in this range. It suits external paving and natural stone with large joint widths. For standard wall and floor tiles, most grouts handle joints from 1 to 15 mm.
Is there a non-sanded grout for narrow joints?
Yes. Ardex FS-DD is a fine non-sanded grout for wall tile joints from 1 to 5 mm. Use it for polished marble, glass mosaics, and other scratch-sensitive tiles where sanded grout would damage the surface.
Do I need to seal cement grout?
Most cement-based grouts benefit from a penetrating sealer after curing, especially in wet areas. Epoxy grout needs no sealer. Check the product data sheet for the grout you choose, as some cement grouts have additives that reduce sealing needs.
