Flooring Supplies

A timber or vinyl floor is only as good as what sits under it. Moisture barriers and epoxy primers seal damp slabs first. Self-levellers and cement screeds from Ardex, RLA, Gripset, and Mapei take out falls and rough patches. Parquetry and hybrid PU adhesives then bond parquetry, engineered boards, and...

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a complete flooring installation involve?
A flooring job follows a set order. Control subfloor moisture first, form levels and falls with a screed, flatten the surface with a levelling compound, then install the finish. The finish is either a bonded covering or an epoxy coating.
In what order do I do the preparation work?
Test the concrete for moisture first. Install a moisture barrier if the reading is high. Lay a screed to form levels or build height. Apply a levelling compound to flatten the surface. Bond the covering or apply the epoxy after the base is complete.
Do I need both a screed and a levelling compound?
Not always. Use a screed when the subfloor needs a new level, a fall or significant build-up. Use a levelling compound to remove shallow dips from an already-level surface. If the slab is flat, go straight to the covering or coating.
What is the difference between a bonded floor covering and an epoxy floor?
A bonded covering is a separate material fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. An epoxy floor is a liquid two-pack coating applied directly to prepared concrete. It cures to a hard surface. Choose the finish for the space.
What do I need to check before I start a flooring job?
Check the concrete for moisture first. A high reading means you need a moisture barrier. Then check the slab is level and smooth enough for the finish you want. Choose your covering or coating, then pick the matching adhesive, screed, or levelling compound.
How long before I can walk on a new epoxy floor?
It depends on the product, the temperature, and the humidity. Check the technical data sheet for the exact cure time of the product you choose. Do not fit furniture or bring in heavy traffic until the coating is fully cured.
