Facing an uneven internal concrete or timber floor that needs a fast, flexible, and robust levelling solution, even over underfloor heating or where subfloor movement is a concern? TruLevel Flexi delivers a smooth, durable base, quickly preparing surfaces for final finishes.

Why this product exists

TruLevel Flexi is a rapid-drying, fibre-reinforced, flexible self-levelling compound. It is engineered for internal concrete and timber substrates, providing a robust, high-performance surface that accommodates movement. This formulation prevents the frustration and cost of rigid screeds cracking over dynamic timber subfloors, or the long delays associated with slow-drying alternatives. It ensures a stable and durable base for a wide range of floor coverings.

The numbers that matter

  • 1mm to 20mm thickness: This wide application range in a single pass means fewer product changes and simpler project planning. It handles minor undulations and more significant dips with equal competence.
  • Flexural Strength >7 N/mm² and Compressive Strength >20 N/mm² (28 days): This combination signifies a tough, yet adaptable underlayment. It resists cracking from subfloor movement while supporting the loads of daily traffic, including wheelchairs.
  • Foot traffic in 2-3 hours; ready for vinyl/carpet in 12 hours: Project timelines accelerate. Trades can access the area quickly, ensuring subsequent floor finishes are laid without unnecessary delays.
  • EC1 Plus VOC: This classification confirms very low emissions, contributing to a healthier indoor environment for both applicators and building occupants.

What it's like to use

TruLevel Flexi is designed for straightforward application following proper surface preparation. It mixes with clean water using a drill and paddle, requiring a thorough, lump-free consistency achieved over approximately three minutes. The mixed material has a 15-minute open time, allowing sufficient window for application with a gauge rake, stand-up spreader, or trowel. For larger areas, it is suitable for pumping. Tools clean immediately with water.

Where this product excels

  • Flexible Timber Subfloor Preparation: When preparing internal timber floors, TruLevel Flexi's fibre-reinforced flexibility is crucial. It creates a seamless, level surface that absorbs minor movements, preventing reflective cracking in subsequent floor finishes.
  • Underfloor Heating Systems: Its enhanced flexibility makes it an ideal leveller over underfloor heating elements, accommodating thermal expansion and contraction without compromising integrity or finish.
  • Internal Concrete Refurbishments: For existing concrete slabs with varying levels, it rapidly establishes a smooth, high-mechanical resistance base for new floor coverings, from luxury vinyl planks to ceramic tiles.

How it fits in a real system

TruLevel Flexi serves as a critical intermediate layer in internal flooring systems. Its performance relies on correct subfloor preparation and priming. Always prime the prepared substrate with RLA Universal Primer to ensure optimal adhesion and prevent pinholes. For concrete subfloors exhibiting high moisture levels, an application of RLA Moisture Seal must precede priming and levelling, creating a complete and robust system.

Choose this when

  • When you need a flexible levelling compound for internal timber or concrete subfloors that can accommodate movement.
  • When working over underfloor heating systems requires a leveller that can handle thermal cycling.
  • When a rapid-drying solution is essential to minimise project downtime before installing vinyl, carpet, or timber flooring.
  • When the final floor covering requires a stable and durable base with high mechanical resistance.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Exterior applications. This product is formulated exclusively for internal use.
  • Not for: Substrates with rising damp. Address the moisture issue first, potentially with RLA Moisture Seal Primer, before applying any leveller.
  • Not for: Direct application over expansion joints, as reflective cracking may occur.
  • Not for: Exposure to direct water contact during or after the curing process.

Classified as CT-C20-F7 according to EN 13813, TruLevel Flexi demonstrates compliance with European standards for screed materials, ensuring consistent compressive and flexural strength. Its EC1 Plus VOC rating signifies very low emissions, supporting healthy indoor air quality.

Understanding the RLA TruLevel Family

Unlike standard rigid self-levelling compounds, RLA TruLevel Flexi's fibre-reinforced and enhanced flexible formulation is engineered to accommodate movement in both timber and concrete subfloors without cracking, ensuring a stable and durable base. When the primary need is for a highly flexible, movement-accommodating layer, especially over timber or underfloor heating, TruLevel Flexi is the specific choice. For jobs requiring a bulk fill up to 80mm with rapid strength gain, consider RLA Aftek TruLevel BulkFill UT Self-Levelling Compound. If the focus is on achieving an ultra-smooth, fine finish, typically from feather-edge up to 10mm, RLA TruLevel Fine Finish Self-Levelling Compound offers a distinct advantage.

Common Questions
x

Frequently asked questions

Can RLA TruLevel Flexi be used on timber floors?

Yes, RLA TruLevel Flexi is specifically formulated for timber substrates. Its enhanced flexibility and fibre reinforcement help manage substrate movement, reducing the risk of cracking in the levelling compound and subsequent floor coverings.

How quickly can I install floor coverings after applying TruLevel Flexi?

Most floor coverings like vinyls, carpets, or ceramic tiles can be installed after 12 hours at 23°C. For timber flooring, allow 24 hours. These rapid cure times support faster project completion.

Is this product suitable for outdoor use or areas with rising damp?

No, RLA TruLevel Flexi is strictly for internal use only. It should not be applied in areas with rising damp or over expansion joints, as these conditions can lead to product failure and reflective cracking.

What is the required priming process for different substrates?

All substrates require RLA Universal Primer. Porous surfaces use a 1:2 primer-to-water mix, while timber and non-porous surfaces (like burnished concrete or ceramic tiles) require neat, undiluted primer. Always ensure the primer is dry and tack-free before applying the levelling compound.
