Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an acrylic sealant in a shower or swimming pool?
No. None of the acrylic sealants in this store are rated for permanent water immersion. For wet-area joints that stay wet, choose a silicone or polyurethane sealant instead. Acrylic sealants work for gaps and joints that dry out between wetting.
What is the difference between a standard and a high-movement acrylic sealant?
Standard acrylic sealants handle up to 25% joint movement. High-movement acrylics like the Everflex JS range handle up to 50%. Use the high-movement grade for expansion joints, precast panels, and tilt-up construction where thermal movement is greater.
Can I paint over acrylic sealant?
Yes. Most acrylic sealants accept paint once they cure. Apply the top coat after the skin forms, which takes 20 to 60 minutes depending on the product. Check the specific product data sheet for the recommended recoat time.
Which acrylic sealant do I need for a fire-rated penetration?
Everflex Fire-Fill is an intumescent acrylic sealant rated to AS1530.4 and AS4072.1. It expands under heat to seal the gap and provides up to a 4-hour fire rating depending on the joint configuration. Maximum gap width is 50mm.
Is there an acrylic sealant that dries clear?
Yes. Allflex 101 applies white and dries clear. It bonds to glass, aluminium, timber joinery, and most plastics. Use it where the sealant line will stay visible, such as around window frames and glass facades.
Can I use acrylic sealant on a roof leak?
Roofers Flash 'N' Patch is a brush-applied acrylic liquid flashing for roof repairs. It sticks to Colorbond, Zincalume, polycarbonate, and timber. Apply at 1.5 to 2mm wet thickness and allow 24 hours to cure before exposure to rain.
