How does a contact adhesive work?
Coat both surfaces and let the solvent flash off. This takes 3 to 5 minutes. When both films are touch dry, press the surfaces together. The bond forms at once.
Can I use contact adhesive on polystyrene foam?
Not a standard one. Most contact adhesives melt polystyrene. Use Styrobond ST. It bonds expanded polystyrene to sheet metal, fibre cement, and timber without eating the foam.
Do I need clamps with contact adhesive?
No. Contact adhesives grab on contact. Coat both faces, wait until touch dry, then press hard and evenly. The joint holds straight away, even on trims that spring back.
Which contact adhesive hides glue lines?
Ultra Clear Brush Contact. It dries completely clear, so it suits upholstery, fabrics, and foam where the joint shows. The brush grade stays where you put it.
How much area does one litre cover?
Plan on 6 to 8 square metres per litre. Spray and brush grades share this rate. One even coat on each face is enough. Match the product spec to the job conditions before you start.
Can the finished bond take heat?
Yes. Standard bonds resist water and ageing. With the 2P additive in the brush grade, the bond holds above 120°C, which suits vehicle interiors and upholstery.
