What is in the Auto Glass Clean stage?
The Clean stage prepares the bond faces so the primer and adhesive hold. Autoshield Activator is the stocked product — a clear, wipe-on adhesion promoter that modifies the surface energy of plain glass and smooth non-porous surfaces. Every Auto Glass job begins with a clean, dry bond face.
Why is cleaning the first step of a windscreen bond?
The structural bond fails if the bond face carries grease, dust or contamination. The Activator cleans the glass and modifies its surface energy so the polyurethane adhesive wets and bonds. Wipe it on, let the solvent evaporate, then wipe it off within 30 to 60 seconds.
How is the Activator applied?
Apply Autoshield Activator very sparingly with a clean rag, lint-free cloth or tissue, using the wipe-on/wipe-off method. Wipe off within 30 to 60 seconds once the solvent has evaporated. Use it only within +5°C to +40°C, and discard the bottle if the liquid turns milky.
Can I clean glass with any solvent?
No. The Activator is the specified preparation for plain-glass bond faces in the NP-60 system. For ceramic-band glass, clean with a dedicated glass cleaner or acetone on a lint-free cloth instead. Never use alcohol-based solutions, which inhibit the adhesive cure, and do not touch a prepared surface.
Is the Clean stage just a wash before priming?
The Activator is more than a wash: it chemically alters the surface energy of the glass and lacquer so the polyurethane adhesive forms a secure bond. Apply it sparingly, keep it clear and stable, and treat the prepared face as ready for the next stage only once it is fully dry.
