Frequently Asked Questions
What does Autoshield Activator do?
Autoshield Activator is a clear wipe-on adhesion promoter for plain glass and smooth non-porous surfaces before priming. It modifies surface energy so the polyurethane adhesive wets and bonds. Apply, let the solvent evaporate, then wipe off within 30 to 60 seconds.
Why clean the glass before bonding a windscreen?
Grease, dust and contamination are the most common cause of adhesion failure. The Activator cleans the bond face and changes its surface energy so the adhesive holds. Apply, let the solvent evaporate, then wipe off before the prepared face is handled.
How do I apply Autoshield Activator?
Apply it sparingly with a clean rag, lint-free cloth or tissue using the wipe-on/wipe-off method. Let the solvent evaporate, then wipe off within 30 to 60 seconds. Use only between +5°C and +40°C.
Can I clean glass with any solvent?
No. The Activator is the specified preparation for plain-glass bond faces. For ceramic-band glass, use a dedicated glass cleaner or acetone on a lint-free cloth instead.
Is this just a glass cleaner, or something more?
It is more than a wash. The Activator chemically alters the surface energy of glass so the adhesive forms a secure bond. Apply sparingly, keep it clear, and treat the prepared face as ready for the next step only once it is fully dry.
What do I use to wipe the Activator on and off?
Use clean rags, lint-free cloths or cleanup wipes. The store stocks industrial cleaning rags and Great Aussie Tradie cleanup wipes for this. Wipe the Activator on, let it flash off, then wipe it off within 30 to 60 seconds.
