For automotive and industrial glazing jobs where polyurethane adhesives must bond reliably to smooth, non-porous surfaces, Autoshield Activator AP1001 prepares the substrate to prevent adhesive failure. This clear wipe-on adhesion promoter chemically alters the surface energy of glass and lacquer to secure a strong bond with polyurethane adhesives.
How it works
Autoshield Activator AP1001 acts as a surface-preparation treatment that ensures polyurethane adhesives adhere tightly to challenging substrates like glass and lacquer. Applied very sparingly, the clear fluid leaves an active film that links the substrate to the incoming adhesive. While the activator remains clear, it is stable and fit for purpose; any change in appearance indicates the chemistry has been compromised.
Limitations
- Do not use if the liquid in the container has turned milky, as this indicates the activator has absorbed moisture and is no longer effective.
- Do not expose the treated area to thermal, mechanical, or chemical influences before the surface is completely dry.
- Avoid application outside the temperature window of +5°C to +40°C.
- The product is classified as hazardous according to Worksafe Australia and must only be used in well-ventilated spaces.
Preparation and application
Ensure all substrates are clean, dry, and entirely free from grease, dust, or contaminants. Apply Autoshield Activator AP1001 very sparingly using a clean applicator, rag, lint-free cloth, or tissue. Because surface coatings and glass compositions vary, always carry out adhesion tests prior to full application to confirm suitability for your specific substrate. To clean tools or remove wet and dry residue from surfaces, use a solvent or alcohol-based cleaner.
