Levelling Compounds

Getting a concrete substrate flat and level before floor coverings go down — that's what this range is built for. From rapid skim coats that are ready in 20 minutes to deep-fill compounds handling up to 70mm in a single pour, these levelling compounds cover internal and external applications across...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a self-levelling compound?
A self-levelling compound is a cement-based underlayment poured onto a floor that flows and settles to form a flat, smooth surface ready for floor coverings. Prime the slab first so it bonds and does not blister.
What is the difference between a levelling compound and a screed?
A screed is a thicker layer, from 15 mm up, used to form a new level, build height or create a fall. A compound self-smooths in thin passes from feather edge up to about 20 mm.
How thick can a levelling compound be poured?
It depends on the product. Bulk-fill levelling compounds in this range pour from 3 mm up to 70 mm in a single coat. Smoothing and skim-coat compounds feather-edge to 3 mm.
How soon can I install the floor covering after levelling?
Most levelling compounds accept foot traffic in three-to-four hours and are ready for vinyl, carpet or tile from 12-to-24 hours. Timber coverings typically need 24 hours, and coatings may need 48-to-72 hours.
Do levelling compounds need a primer?
Usually yes. Priming seals the substrate, prevents the compound from losing water too fast, and gives a stronger bond. A primer is recommended on non-porous or burnished surfaces and is required over a cured moisture barrier before you pour.
Do I need a levelling compound for a commercial floor?
Most commercial floors need one. Foot, cart and vehicle traffic flattens an untreated substrate over time. Floor coverings fail on an uneven surface. A levelling compound gives the covering a flat base to bond to and extends its service life.
