What products are in Auto Glass Primers?
Two adhesion promoters: Autoshield GB Primer, the glass-side primer for auto-glass structural bonds, and Autoshield Activator, the wipe-on surface cleaner. On plain glass you use both before the adhesive. On ceramic-band glass the bond goes primerless, so you need neither.
Why do I prime the glass before bonding?
Priming gives the polyurethane adhesive a secure grip on smooth glass and painted metal. GB Primer forms a thin black receptive layer that bridges the glass to the adhesive and blocks UV light that would otherwise degrade the bond over time.
Do I need primer on every windscreen?
No. On plain glass, clean with Autoshield Activator, then apply Autoshield GB Primer and let it dry. On ceramic-band glass, clean and abrade the band, then bond directly with no primer. Use primer only where the job requires a primed bond face.
How long does GB Primer take to dry?
Let it dry 15 to 60 minutes before applying the adhesive, inside its flash-off window. Apply one thin covering coat and confirm the film is fully dry. Minimum substrate and air temperatures apply; below that range the dry time changes.
How do I apply Autoshield GB Primer?
Shake until the mixing ball rattles, then keep shaking one minute. Apply one thin covering coat with a brush, felt pad or foam applicator, ideally at 15 to 25 degrees C. Keep the bottle sealed. Discard it if the primer gels, separates or thickens.
How long does an opened bottle of GB Primer last?
Dispose of it one month after opening if you use it often, or two months if you use it rarely. For 100 ml packs, dispose two weeks after opening. Stix and tubes are single-use; discard any leftover.
