Frequently Asked Questions
Where is sealant used in tiled areas?
Use compatible silicone sealant at sanitary edges, changes of plane and movement joints after the tiled finish is complete. These locations need a flexible joint, not grout.
Why not use grout in a movement joint?
Grout is rigid after cure. A movement joint needs flexible sealant so normal movement does not crack the joint or adjacent tile. Match the product spec to the job conditions before you start.
When should I apply tile sealant?
Apply sealant after the tile adhesive and grout have cured and the joint is clean and dry. Follow the sealant product instructions. Match the product spec to the job conditions before you start.
How do I choose a tile sealant?
Select a sanitary or tile-compatible silicone sealant approved for the joint, environment and required colour. Check the technical data for limitations. Match the product spec to the job conditions before you start.
Does sealant replace waterproofing?
No. Sealant finishes exposed joints. Waterproofing is the separate under-tile membrane system installed before tile setting. Match the product spec to the job conditions before you start.
