Concrete Prep & Levels

Concrete preparation is the work that happens before a repair mortar, coating, waterproofing membrane or floor finish goes down. This range covers primers, moisture barriers, bonding agents, screeds, levelling compounds and cement modifiers used to stabilise, seal, bond, flatten or build the substrate before the next system layer is installed.

Choose the preparation step by substrate condition

• Porous concrete and masonry: penetrating or general-purpose primers control suction and improve adhesion before compatible membranes, adhesives and sealants.
• Dense or non-porous surfaces: specialist bonding primers create a key where an absorbing primer will not work.
• Damp or green concrete: epoxy and vapour-barrier primers are used where residual moisture must be controlled before coatings, membranes or floor finishes.
• Uneven slabs and subfloors: screeds and self-levelling compounds build falls, fill low areas and create the correct plane for subsequent work.
• Cement modification and bonding: PVA, SBR and latex additives modify screeds, renders and bonding slurries where the manufacturer specifies them.

Preparation is different from repair

Priming, levelling and moisture control prepare a sound substrate; they do not replace structural concrete repair. For spalls, missing sections, cracks and damaged concrete, use Concrete Repair Products and the specialist Concrete Repair Mortars range.

Match the product to the next system layer

Compatibility matters. Check the current technical data for substrate moisture, porosity, cure time, coverage and the coating, membrane, adhesive or floor finish that follows. Do not substitute one primer or bonding agent for another solely because both are described as “concrete preparation”.
