BAT Eco SynSafe Acid

For clearing grout haze, cleaning brickwork, or etching concrete surfaces, BAT Eco SynSafe Acid provides the performance of a traditional strong acid wash without the severe handling hazards. Formulated with ingredients selected from the US Environmental Protection Agency's Design for the Environment safe chemical ingredients list, this organic compound replaces toxic, highly corrosive mineral acids with a biodegradable formula that will not cause acid burns on direct skin contact.

How it works

This solution delivers an active pH level of less than 1, allowing it to rapidly dissolve cementitious binders, mortar slurry, and mineral scale on masonry, brick, and concrete. Unlike conventional hydrochloric or phosphoric acids, it is non-fuming and contains no VOCs, reducing respiratory hazards during indoor applications such as cleaning grout haze or preparing concrete floors. The compound is non-toxic and breaks down completely in the environment, making it safer for operators to handle, store, and transport on site. When applied and rinsed correctly, it cleans and etches without damaging most common building materials, pumps, pipes, or steel equipment.

Where to use it

• Brick and masonry: Dissolving wet masonry slurry, cleaning mortar residue off brick faces, and descaling.
• Concrete prep: Etching concrete surfaces before coating, or softening concrete as a grinding aid to keep diamond tools clean.
• Tiling and grouting: Removing cementitious grout haze from tiled surfaces.
• Equipment maintenance: Removing rust from metals and concrete, and cleaning diamond tools, pumps, and pipes.

Limitations

• Avoid use on uncoated aluminium, as a chemical reaction or surface damage may occur.
• Always test the acid solution in a small, inconspicuous area before starting the main application to ensure compatibility and verify there is no unwanted reaction with the substrate.

Equipment and handling

When pumping this product, use manufacturer-approved hose couplings and fittings. Recommended system components include 316 stainless steel, polypropylene, and polyethylene. While the formula is skin-safe, safety glasses or goggles are suggested during handling to prevent eye irritation from accidental splashes.
