Description  

ARDEX AF 171 is a water-based, low-VOC universal flooring adhesive for installing vinyl sheet, luxury vinyl tiles and planks, linoleum and selected textile or rubber floor coverings. It combines strong initial grab with a durable final bond and resistance to plasticiser migration—particularly useful when working with resilient vinyl finishes.

Why choose AF 171?

Its wet-set method is suited to LVT and LVP, helping achieve adhesive transfer under individual planks or tiles. For sheet vinyl, a semi-wet method gives the adhesive time to develop tack before the covering is laid. Excellent dimensional stability and resistance to plasticiser migration help maintain the finished floor over time.

Subfloor and installation considerations

AF 171 is an internal flooring adhesive for suitable dry, smooth, clean and absorbent subfloors, including approved cementitious underlayments and correctly specified underlay boards. Wet-set vinyl planks and tiles should be placed within the specified short working window; site temperature, humidity and porosity affect timing and coverage.

Subfloor moisture matters. Damp or green concrete may require a compatible ARDEX moisture-control system and levelling layer before this adhesive is installed. Rising damp and particularly high moisture levels need a separately specified moisture-barrier solution. Select the correct method for the floor covering and prepare the substrate to AS 1884 and the flooring system requirements.

Suitable for vinyl sheet, LVT, LVP, linoleum, rubber flooring, acoustic mats and carpet. Wet-set installation for LVT and LVP uses a maximum 15-minute placement window. Sheet vinyl uses a semi-wet adhesive bed after about 40 to 50 minutes. Full drying is about 72 hours at 20°C.
How To Apply  
Use on dry, smooth, clean and absorbent internal subfloors. Prime highly absorbent surfaces with ARDEX P 51. For LVT and LVP, install into the wet adhesive within about 15 minutes to maintain full transfer. For sheet vinyl, allow the adhesive to become semi-wet, typically about 40 to 50 minutes, then place the flooring. Roll installed flooring in both directions within 60 minutes. Allow about 72 hours at 20°C for full drying.
Limitations and Safety Info  
Do not use over substrates with uncontrolled rising damp. Where concrete moisture exceeds 90% RH, consult ARDEX Technical Services or the applicable ARDEX moisture-barrier system guidance. Where an ARDEX moisture barrier is installed, apply at least 3mm of the specified ARDEX levelling compound before AF 171. Subfloor porosity, temperature and humidity affect coverage and working times. Maintain site conditions in line with AS 1884 and the flooring manufacturer's requirements.
