For laying parquetry, strip flooring, and wood blocks over concrete or timber substrates, Parquetry PS1300 Flooring Adhesive provides a secure bond that accommodates natural movement. This moisture-curing hybrid adhesive has very low VOC emissions, making it suitable for Greenstar rated projects, and achieves high primerless adhesion to wood, concrete, stone, and glass.
How it works
Parquetry PS1300 is formulated as a single-component Hybrid MS Polymer. The pasty consistency allows for uniform notched-trowel application, curing upon exposure to atmospheric moisture to form a tough, flexible bed. With an average open time of 60 minutes at 23°C, it provides a practical working window to lay, align, and hammer timber elements before skinning. It cures at a rate of 3.5mm per 24 hours, establishing a highly stable elastomeric bond with a Shore A hardness of greater than 20 to resist heavy traffic loads without turning brittle.
Numbers that matter
-
60-minute working time: The open window at 23°C and 50% relative humidity to lay timber into the wet adhesive film and check for complete transfer.
-
≤ 3% substrate humidity: The maximum allowable moisture level in concrete subflooring (≤ 0.5% for anhydrite screeds) to prevent adhesion failure.
-
48-hour cure: The minimum drying window required after installation before the floor can be safely sanded.
-
600 to 900 g/m² coverage: The typical consumption rate (equivalent to 1.2 to 1.6m² per litre) when applying with a 2mm or 3mm notched trowel.
Where to use it
This adhesive is designed for bonding specialized timber flooring systems, including:
- Special, laminated, varnished, and resin-impregnated parquetry
- Paving wood blocks and standing timber
- Plywood and strip flooring
- Exotic species (such as teak and bamboo) installed over cork underlayment
Limitations and moisture control
-
Underfloor ventilation: Do not apply directly to a platform substrate without an active underfloor ventilation space.
-
Slab on ground: If applying over a slab on ground, a vapour barrier (such as Primer VBS) is strongly recommended to eliminate the risk of rising damp, cupping, and warping.
-
Timber moisture limits: The moisture content of the parquetry flooring must be between 7% and 11% at the time of installation.
-
Environmental boundaries: Do not apply at temperatures below +10°C or when the relative humidity of the room exceeds 65%.
-
Substrate flatness: Substrates must be even to a maximum tolerance of 5mm under a 2m ruler. Uneven subfloors require a suitable levelling compound or a minimum 3mm cement underlayment.
Installation details
The substrate must be completely clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and curing compounds. For new 30mm screeds, allow a drying time of at least 4 weeks in summer and 5 to 6 weeks in winter before application. Cut the corner off the foil sachet, spread the adhesive onto the subfloor, and comb with an appropriate spatula or notched trowel. Lay the timber into the wet film, verify proper adhesive transfer to the underside of the wood, and hammer the timber to seat it. Always leave a 10mm to 20mm expansion gap along all walls to allow for structural movement. Wet adhesive must be cleaned from tools immediately using xylene or toluene; cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically.
