To ensure a reliable bond when installing a Topcem Pronto bonded engineered screed, Topcem Pronto Slurry creates the critical interface on concrete substrates. It is formulated for both indoor and outdoor use to secure the screed layer directly to the prepared base.
How it works
Topcem Pronto Slurry acts as a wet-on-wet bonding bridge. Mixed with either Planicrete and water or Planicrete SP latex additive, it forms a highly cohesive slurry that must be applied directly to the concrete. The screed is then spread immediately over the wet slurry. This fresh-on-fresh technique ensures the physical integration of the screed to the concrete base, preventing cold joints, delamination, and hollow spots under traffic.
Numbers that matter
-
2 to 2.5 kg/m² consumption: The required application rate for the slurry powder to achieve a continuous 2 mm to 3 mm bonding layer on the concrete.
-
3 to 4 minutes slake time: The necessary resting window after initial mixing to allow the polymer chemistry to activate before a brief final remix.
-
+5°C to +35°C temperature window: The allowable ambient and substrate temperature range required for application and curing.
Where to use it
Apply to structurally sound, clean, and dry concrete substrates. The concrete must be free of dust, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, primers, or any substance that inhibits adhesion. All loosely bonded toppings or debris must be completely removed by mechanical means such as shotblasting, scarification, or diamond grinding before application.
Limitations
- Do not use on concrete substrates subject to rising damp.
- Do not apply the Topcem Pronto screed if the slurry has dried on the substrate; the application must be wet-on-wet.
- If the floor will be subjected to high mechanical stresses, use an epoxy bonding adhesive such as Eporip instead of Topcem Pronto Slurry.
- Do not mix with other binders or aggregates not specified in the technical instructions.
- If the mixed slurry has begun to set, it must be disposed of. Do not add more water or latex additive, and do not remix.
How to apply
For application using a trowel, spread and gauge the slurry thickness using a 6 x 6 mm square notched trowel. Alternatively, apply a continuous and even 2 mm to 3 mm layer using a large flat brush or scrubbing brush. Topcem Pronto screed must be spread onto the slurry while the slurry is still fresh.
Mixing ratios
Mix the slurry thoroughly to a homogeneous, smooth consistency using one of the following ratios by weight:
-
Option 1 (with Planicrete): 3 parts Topcem Pronto Slurry to 1 part Planicrete and 1 part water.
-
Option 2 (with Planicrete SP): 3 parts Topcem Pronto Slurry to 2 parts Planicrete SP.
