Levels & Falls

Falls drain wet areas; level floors accept flooring without hollow spots. Ardex A 38 and A 48 rapid screeds set foot traffic in hours. Gripset C-Bed pours pumpable feather-smooth beds. TruLevel and Mapecemp self-levellers take slabs flat. Topcem Pronto restores service fast on program-critical jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a floor screed and when do I need one?
A screed is a cement-based layer on a concrete subfloor. It forms a new level plane, corrects height differences, builds thickness, or makes ramps and drainage falls.
What is the difference between a screed and a levelling compound?
A screed is a thicker layer for forming levels, falls, and building height. A levelling compound is a thinner self-smoothing pour that flattens minor dips in an already-level floor.
How thick can a cement screed be laid?
Bonded screeds in this range start at a 10-to-15 mm minimum and can be built up in lifts. Unbonded and floating screeds start at 35-to-40 mm.
How long before I can install floor coverings over a new screed?
Rapid-set screeds here accept foot traffic in two to four hours and reach tile-ready condition in about eight hours. Resilient and timber coverings usually need 24-to-48 hours to match the screed's moisture tolerance.
Do screeds need a bonding slurry?
Bonded screeds need a bonding bridge between the prepared concrete and fresh screed. Mapei Topcem Pronto Slurry is one such product. Apply it wet-on-wet right before placing the screed. Never let the slurry dry first.
What surface do I need before I screed?
The substrate must be clean, sound, and free of dust, oil, and loose material. Roughen smooth concrete so the screed has something to grip. Fill cracks and holes first. If the concrete is new, make sure it has cured enough to take the screed.
