Turps: the workshop solvent for cleaning oil-based paint off brushes and rollers, degreasing tools and machinery, and thinning oil-based products where the label allows.
Flammable and smelly, same as always. Lid on when not in use, away from ignition, and rags soaked in it go outside to dry flat before disposal: piled-up solvent rags can self-ignite.
What is mineral turpentine used for?
Cleaning oil-based paint and compatible residues from tools, degreasing and thinning products that permit mineral turpentine.
Can it be used as a thinner for any coating?
No. Use it only where the product manufacturer specifies mineral turpentine as a suitable thinner.
Should I test the surface first?
Yes. Solvents can affect plastics, coatings and sensitive finishes.
Is mineral turpentine flammable?
Yes. Follow the current SDS and keep it away from ignition sources.

- Brushes and rollers carrying compatible uncured oil-based coatings.
- Compatible non-porous surfaces after a spot test.
