Lay the bead slightly proud, then draw the blade along the joint in one pass with even pressure. Wipe the blade between passes; cured crumbs in the profile are what drag lines into the bead.
One profile per blade: pick the size that matches the joint. Too wide a blade on a narrow joint feathers the edges thin.
