Description  

ARDEX WA 98 is a solvent-based contact adhesive for bonding selected ARDEX sheet waterproofing membranes to prepared external substrates. It is designed for ARDEX WeldTec, Butynol and WPM 116 systems, with a long tack window that makes bonding large roof and deck areas easier to manage.

Why choose WA 98?

WA 98 can be applied by brush, roller or spray, giving installers flexibility across broad membrane runs and detailed areas. Coating the prepared substrate and the underside of the membrane creates a strong contact bond once both surfaces are ready to join. Its extended working time is particularly useful when handling larger sheets outdoors.

Typical applications

  • External bonding of compatible WeldTec and Butynol waterproofing membranes.
  • Roof, deck and other non-immersed sheet-membrane installations.
  • Prepared concrete, screeds, brick, compressed fibre-cement sheet, timber and selected PVC substrates.

Typical bond-area coverage is approximately 4–8m² per litre, depending on substrate porosity and application method. Working time is approximately 15–60 minutes and varies with temperature and site conditions.

Before selecting WA 98

External applications only. WA 98 is highly flammable and must be used with suitable ventilation and ignition-source controls. Porous substrates may require a primer coat; high-moisture concrete and masonry may need ARDEX WPM 300 preparation before bonding. Adhesive must not contaminate membrane areas that need to be heat welded. This is a system-specific membrane adhesive, not a general-purpose construction glue.

Uses & Benefits  
Solvent-based neoprene contact adhesive for external ARDEX Weldtec, Butynol and WPM 116 sheet-membrane installations. Suitable for concrete, screed, brick, fibre cement, timber and selected PVC substrates. Typical coverage is 4 to 8m² per litre per coat applied to both surfaces. Dry-to-tack time is about 15 to 20 minutes. Working time is about 15 to 60 minutes. Application temperature range is 10°C to 35°C.
How To Apply  
Stir or shake the adhesive thoroughly before use. Apply evenly to both the prepared substrate and membrane underside by brush, roller or suitable spray equipment. For porous masonry or concrete, use the specified two-coat preparation where required. Allow the adhesive to flash off until tacky, typically about 15 to 20 minutes. Bed the membrane within the approximately 15 to 60 minute working window and press it firmly for full contact. If the tack window is exceeded, reapply adhesive as directed.
Limitations and Safety Info  
External use only. Do not use for internal applications. Highly flammable. Keep away from flames, sparks, electrical ignition sources and other heat sources. Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not bed membrane before the adhesive becomes tacky. Trapped solvent can cause bubbling. Do not leave applied adhesive exposed to UV for long periods. High substrate moisture can reduce adhesion and drying performance unless treated with the specified ARDEX moisture system.
