Use Gripset BRW PF Tape for: Instant sealing of wall/floor junctions, waterproofing puddle flanges, and patching metal surfaces without waiting for liquid sealants to cure.

Gripset BRW PF Tape: A Product Overview

Gripset BRW PF Tape is a professional-grade, self-adhesive butyl rubber sealing band designed for high-performance flashing and detailing. Built for trades who can't afford to wait, this "peel and stick" solution provides an instant, moisture-proof seal over junctions, pipes, and penetrations. By eliminating the drying time required by traditional liquid sealants, you can move straight to your membrane application, protecting your project timelines and your margins. Whether you're a specialist waterproofer or a dedicated property owner, this tape delivers the predictable performance needed to secure wet areas first-time-right.

Service Temperature: -30°C to 80°C

Outstanding thermal stability means your seals stay tight in extreme Australian conditions, eliminating the risk of movement-related leaks and costly callbacks.

Key Features of Gripset BRW PF Tape

  • Butyl Rubber Backing: Provides aggressive adhesion to most surfaces for a permanent, flexible seal that won't lift over time.
  • Fabric Face: Specifically engineered to bond with Gripset liquid membranes, tile adhesives, and renders for a seamless system integration.
  • 70% Elongation: High deformability allows the tape to flex with substrate movement without rupturing, ensuring long-term watertight integrity.
  • Solvent-Free & Non-Toxic: Safe for use in confined internal spaces and environmentally sensitive projects.
  • Tear Resistant: Tough construction handles the rigours of job-site foot traffic and tool contact during the tiling process.

The Gripset BRW PF Tape Advantage

  • Speed up your workflow: Instant sealing means no waiting for curing; apply your next coat or finish immediately and keep the job moving.
  • No primer required: Achieve excellent bond strength on clean, dense surfaces like metal and PVC without the extra step of priming.
  • Reliability at low temperatures: Maintains outstanding adhesion retention even in cold weather, where other tapes often fail to bite.
  • Simple, clean application: The peel-and-stick design reduces mess and waste compared to cartridge-based bond breakers.

Adheseal tips for using Gripset BRW PF Tape

Scenario: Applying to Damp Substrates

Potential Outcome: The butyl backing will fail to achieve a full molecular bond, leading to delamination and water tracking behind the tape.

Adheseal Best Practice: Ensure surfaces are bone dry. If residual moisture is present, prime the area with Gripset E60 first to create a moisture-stable base before sticking the tape.

Scenario: Air Pockets and Creases

Potential Outcome: Trapped air prevents 100% surface contact, creating weak spots where water can eventually penetrate under pressure.

Adheseal Best Practice: After positioning, use a small vinyl roller or spatula to firmly press the tape from the centre outwards. You'll feel the tape "bite" as the air is displaced.

Applications in Practice: Trade Scenarios

For Waterproofers: High-Risk Internal Wet Areas

The Professional's Challenge

Ensuring a compliant bond breaker at wall/floor junctions that stays perfectly in place while applying liquid membranes, especially around awkward plumbing penetrations.

The Adheseal Solution

Utilise the 80mm BRW PF Tape as a dedicated bond breaker system. The fabric face ensures your Gripset 38 or Gripset 51 membrane keys in perfectly, creating a reinforced transition that handles structural flex. Success means a 100% watertight result that passes every inspection.

Best Practice Note

Cut small square "patches" of tape to detail around square floor wastes; it’s faster and more reliable than trying to fold a single length of tape into a corner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Gripset BRW PF Tape compliant with Australian waterproofing standards?

Yes, Gripset BRW PF Tape is designed as a bond breaker and sealing system for use in applications meeting AS 3740 and AS 4654.2. When used as part of a Gripset membrane system, it provides the required movement accommodation for internal and external wet areas, ensuring your installation meets NCC requirements.

Can I use this tape on a damp concrete floor?

No, the tape cannot be applied directly to damp surfaces as it will compromise the butyl rubber adhesion. If you are dealing with damp concrete or high residual moisture, you must first prime the substrate with Gripset E60 vapor barrier. Once the primer is dry, the tape can be applied with full confidence.

Do I need to use a primer on metal flashings or PVC pipes?

Generally, priming is not required for non-porous surfaces like galvanised iron, aluminium, and PVC plastics, provided they are clean and free of oil. Simply degrease the surface, ensure it is dry, and apply the tape directly. For highly porous masonry or dusty timber, use Gripset GP primer to ensure maximum grab.

Applications & Benefits

Product applications, benefits, and relevant trades
Application / Use Case Key Benefit Primary Trades
Wall/floor junctions Compliant bond breaker system Waterproofers, Builders
Puddle flange sealing Instant watertight seal on PVC Plumbers, Waterproofers
Roofing & gutter repairs Weatherproof patching on metals Roofers, Maintenance
Pipe penetrations Flexible detailing around PVC Waterproofers, Tilers

Applying Gripset BRW PF Tape: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. Preparation & Measurement

Clean the substrate thoroughly and measure the length of the joint or penetration to be sealed.

    Cutting

Use sharp scissors or a utility knife to cut the tape to size, allowing for overlaps at corners.

Pro Tip: For long runs, peel only 200mm of release paper at a time to maintain control and prevent the tape from sticking to itself.
  2. Installation & Bedding

Remove the backing paper and press the butyl side onto the substrate with the fabric face exposed.

    Tooling

Use a spatula or small roller to force out air bubbles and ensure 100% contact with the surface.

Timing: Immediate. Overlays and membranes can be applied as soon as the tape is rolled flat.

Limitations & Safety

Product Limitations

!
Not suitable for expansion joints or negative hydrostatic pressure applications.
!
Cannot be used as an exposed flashing; must be finished over with a membrane, coating, or tile system.
!
Do not apply when surface temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C.

Safety & Handling Requirements

🔒
Personal Protective Equipment

Wear safety shoes and suitable gloves. While the material is non-hazardous, gloves prevent skin contact with the aggressive butyl adhesive during handling.

🚑
Emergency First Aid
Eyes:
Wash out immediately with water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
Skin:
Flush skin with water. Seek assistance if redness or irritation occurs.
Swallowed:
Rinse mouth with water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical advice.

Gripset BRW PF Tape Application Guide

Metals & Plastics (PVC, Colorbond, Galvanised Iron)

Surfaces must be mechanically sound and free of rust or oxidation. Wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove dust and oils.

No primer typically required

Direct application is suitable for dense, clean non-porous surfaces.

Porous Masonry (Concrete, Brick, Render)

Must be fully cured and dry. Remove laitance, curing compounds, and dust via grinding or wire brushing if necessary.

Primer required for porous surfaces

Highly porous surfaces must be primed to consolidate dust and ensure a stable bond.
