For sealing wall and floor junctions, puddle flanges, and plumbing penetrations without waiting for liquid sealants to cure, BRW PF Tape provides an instant, self-adhesive moisture barrier. This butyl rubber sealing band sticks directly to common substrates including primed concrete, timber, compressed fibre cement sheeting, and metals, allowing you to apply surface finishes immediately after installation.
How it works
The tape utilizes a high-tack butyl rubber backing paired with a fleece-textured fabric face. The butyl layer deforms easily over irregular substrates to create an immediate mechanical seal against water ingress and vibration. Because the fabric face is highly compatible with cement-based and liquid systems, you can apply Gripset tile adhesives, membranes, renders, and screeds directly over the tape without adhesion failure. This mechanical bondbreaker system accommodates joint movement and flexing at critical intersections, preventing stress transfer from the substrate through to the finished tile or coating layer.
Where to use it
-
Wall/floor junctions: As a high-flexibility bondbreaker system at internal and external transitions before applying waterproofing membranes.
-
Penetrations and drainage: Sealing around PVC plumbing pipes, waterstops, puddle flanges, and roof flashings.
-
Metal repairs: Patching pinholes, corrosion pits, and seams on galvanised iron, copper, aluminium, zincalume, and Colorbond surfaces.
-
General maintenance: Detailing joints and transitions on plasterboard, masonry, glazed ceramic tiles, granite, marble, and polycarbonate sheets before tiling or coating.
Numbers that matter
-
0.8mm thickness: Low-profile build-up that keeps joint transitions flush under tiles, waterproofing membranes, or renders.
-
70% elongation (EN 12311-1): High stretch capability in both longitudinal and transverse directions to absorb structural shifting without rupturing.
-
>100N tensile strength (EN 12311-1): Heavy-duty resistance to tearing and physical stress during installation and substrate settlement.
-
>80N peel adhesion (ASTM D1000): Tenacious grip that prevents peeling or lifting at edge transitions over time.
-
-30°C to 80°C service temperature: Maintains structural seal and adhesion retention through extreme thermal expansion and contraction cycles.
Limitations
- Do not apply over damp surfaces. Damp substrates must be sealed and primed with Gripset E60 before applying the tape.
- Not compatible with solvent-based materials applied directly over the tape.
- Do not use for sealing joints subject to negative hydrostatic pressure.
- Do not use as an exposed flashing or exposed joint seal in external applications; the tape must be finished over with a surface covering.
- Do not use over structural expansion joints.
- Do not apply when surface temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C.
Application and priming
On clean, dry, stable, and dust-free surfaces, BRW PF Tape can be applied without a primer. Highly porous or dusty substrates must be primed with Gripset GP, E60, or Xpress H20 Primer Plus. For damp substrates, prime with Gripset E60 before tape application.
To install, measure and cut the tape to length. Peel back the release paper to expose the grey butyl adhesive and press the tape firmly into place, ensuring the white fabric face is exposed upwards. Use a spatula or a vinyl roller to smooth out all air pockets and creases to guarantee full connection with the substrate. Finishes, coatings, and tile adhesives can be applied immediately once the tape is rolled down.
