For porous wall and floor substrates prior to tiling, levelling, or waterproofing, Everflex Primer WBP is a water-based, penetrating acrylic primer designed to seal the surface, enhance adhesion, and prevent blistering and pinholes in subsequent coatings.
What it does
Everflex Primer WBP penetrates porous building materials to form a sound, uniform surface. By sealing the substrate, it controls absorption to eliminate pinholes and surface blistering in self-levelling compounds and waterproofing membranes. It dries to a tack-free, translucent pale green film, letting installers easily identify primed areas and verify coverage before proceeding with subsequent installations.
Numbers that matter
-
15 to 30 minutes cure time (at 23°C) — rapid drying window allows subsequent coatings or compounds to be applied quickly once dry to a translucent film.
-
6m² to 9m² per litre consumption — physical property consumption rate (with approximate application coverage extending from 5 to 10m² per litre depending on substrate porosity).
-
Less than 16g/L VOC content — low-odour, non-toxic formulation that meets Green Star environmental criteria.
-
10°C to 35°C application range — the required temperature envelope for safe film formation and curing.
Where to use it
This primer is suitable for internal and external walls and floors over a wide range of porous building substrates, including:
- Concrete cured for a minimum of 28 days
- 3:1 sand cement screeds or C-Bed
- Masonry and cement render cured for a minimum of 4 days
- Medium-density and compressed fibre-cement sheet
- Cement sheeting, underlays, external weatherboard, and blue board
- Jointing compound over plasterboard
- Wet area plasterboard and Villaboard
- Brickwork and Hebel aggregate blocks
- Pre-cast concrete once form release agents are completely removed or dissipated
System compatibility
Everflex Primer WBP is formulated for use with subsequent Adheseal-supplied systems, specifically:
-
Waterproofing membranes: Everflex WPUV, Everflex HVUV, Everflex WPM Fast cure, and Everflex Aqua-Ban.
-
Tile adhesives: Cement-based ceramic tile adhesives and grouts, including Gripset C-Lite, Gripset C-Mastic, RLA Unigrip, and RLA Mastic.
-
Levelling compounds: Aftek Bulk Fill and Tru-Level F23 self-levelling compound.
Limitations
- Do not apply when temperatures are below 10°C or above 35°C.
- Do not apply on damp, wet, or contaminated substrates, if it is raining, or if rain is imminent.
- Not suitable for areas subject to rising damp or hydrostatic pressure; use Everflex VBS instead.
- Not designed to withstand foot traffic or remain as a exposed trafficable surface.
- Limited UV resistance; not designed for long-term UV exposure and must be overcoated.
Application and preparation
All substrates must be structurally sound, dry, clean, and free of dust, oils, grease, curing compounds, form release agents, or friable material. Do not use solvents or acid etching to clean the subfloor. If mechanical preparation is required, use dry diamond grinding to achieve a roughened, open porous profile, then vacuum thoroughly.
To verify substrate porosity, dispense a water puddle the size of a 1-dollar coin onto the surface. If the water absorbs in under two minutes, the substrate is porous. If the puddle remains, the substrate is non-porous and requires a light grind or sand to ensure adhesion.
Apply Everflex Primer WBP by brush, roller, or spray, ensuring complete coverage. The primer must stay wet on the surface for at least 2 minutes to penetrate effectively. If the primer dries instantly upon application, reapply immediately.
