Caulk exposed timber marine deck seams with a flexible, weather-resistant sealant that can be sanded to the finished deck. Sikaflex®-290 DC PRO is a black, one-component moisture-curing polyurethane compound designed specifically for joints in traditional teak and other suitable timber decking on boats, yachts and commercial vessels.
Purpose-made for timber deck caulking
The cured compound resists fresh and seawater exposure, offers durable elasticity and is designed for straightforward sanding as part of professional deck finishing. Its performance is intended for properly detailed and prepared deck seams rather than general-purpose marine sealing.
Timber priming and caulking
Clean and dry the timber seam, then apply the appropriate Sika marine primer; Sika specifies that timber priming is mandatory and identifies Sika® Primer-215 as an example. Confirm the actual primer and pretreatment method using the current marine system guide and adhesion trials. Apply with suitable extrusion equipment between 5°C and 35°C, with optimum processing conditions around 15–25°C.
Finishing and maintenance
Allow adequate moisture cure before sanding; cure will take longer in cool, dry conditions. Do not clean finished joints with solvents, acids, caustics or chlorine-containing cleaners. Supplied here as a 600 mL black foil unipack for professional marine deck work.
- Prepared and correctly primed traditional timber marine decking
- Other compatible deck perimeter substrates only where tested and approved in the Sika marine system
