When a concrete structure needs rapid, durable repair, avoiding lengthy downtime and ensuring structural integrity is the priority. Mapegrout Fast-Set Rapido is engineered for exactly this challenge, providing a quick and robust solution for deteriorated concrete surfaces. It restores strength and finish, allowing projects to move forward with minimal delay.
Why this product exists
Mapegrout Fast-Set Rapido was formulated to deliver a high-performance, rapid-acting solution for structural concrete repair. It addresses damage caused by factors like reinforcing rod oxidation, freeze-thaw cycles, or general wear. This pre-blended mortar combines special hydraulic binders, selected aggregates, and synthetic fibres to create a shrinkage-compensated mix. This design ensures that repairs are not only fast but also durable, maintaining structural stability and allowing for a quick return to service for critical concrete elements.
What it's like to use
Mapegrout Fast-Set Rapido is mixed with clean water using an electric mixer until smooth and lump-free. Given its rapid setting, prepare only enough product to use within its 10-minute pot life. The mortar has excellent thixotropic properties, allowing for easy trowel application up to 20-25 mm thick on vertical surfaces without slump. For deeper repairs, apply in layers, waiting approximately 15 minutes between coats.
Substrate preparation is critical: remove all deteriorated concrete and clean reinforcing rods thoroughly. Protect rebar with Mapefer or Mapefer 1K before applying the mortar. Wet the substrate to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition; a bonding slurry made from Mapegrout Fast-Set and water is recommended for enhanced adhesion, especially on absorbent surfaces. After application, keep repaired areas damp for at least 24 hours to ensure proper cure. Light traffic is possible after approximately 3 hours, and it can be painted with products from the Elastocolor range after 3 days.
How it fits in a real system
Mapegrout Fast-Set Rapido often serves as the core repair material in a comprehensive concrete restoration system. For structural repairs involving exposed rebar, it is applied directly over steel protected by a passivating agent such as Mapefer or Mapefer 1K. This sequence ensures long-term corrosion protection of the steel within the repair. In waterproofing applications, it can be used for pointing between bricks or pre-filling voids before the application of a waterproofing membrane like Planiseal 88, providing a solid, stable base for the subsequent waterproofing layer.
