For emergency repairs to concrete structures, pipes, and tanks, Megapoxy PF is a rapid-set epoxy paste adhesive that hardens-as-you-hold-it. It sets in seven minutes and achieves more than half its ultimate strength within 15 minutes of mixing at 25°C, making it suitable for immediate on-the-spot repairs, vertical grouting, and overhead bonding where sag must be avoided.

What it does

Megapoxy PF provides high-strength permanent bonds across mismatched substrates including concrete, steel, natural stone, and fibreglass. Its creamy paste texture allows for smooth application on vertical surfaces without dripping. When properly mixed, the formula is non-staining, preventing discolouration on white or light-coloured marble, ceramics, and natural stones. The rapid cure profile allows the material to be machined after 30 minutes of curing at 25°C.

Numbers that matter

  • 3-minute work time (at 25°C): Extremely tight application window requiring rapid placement immediately after mixing.
  • 1-hour minimum cure (at 25°C): Achieves 90% cure within 60 minutes; cures in 2 hours at 15°C and 30 minutes at 35°C.
  • 70 MPa compressive strength (ASTM D695-23): Provides high-load compressive resistance superior to standard concrete.
  • 16 MPa tensile bond strength on steel (ASTM D897-08): Delivers high-adhesion mechanical bonding when joining metal to metal or concrete.
  • >3 MPa bond strength on concrete (ASTM D4541): Ensures structural adhesion that exceeds the cohesive strength of the concrete substrate.

Where to use it

Megapoxy PF is formulated for structural assembly and fast-turnaround maintenance, including:

  • Bonding precast concrete articles, bricks, ceramics, and compressed cement sheet.
  • Grouting bolts and anchoring fasteners into concrete columns or walls.
  • Filling and repairing concrete pipes, tanks, stairs, and insitu formed concrete.
  • Flush-filling countersunk screws in fibre cement sheet.
  • Repairing and structural bonding of fibreglass articles.

Limitations

  • Do not apply below 10°C: The minimum application temperature required for the chemical reaction to initiate.
  • Strict 1:1 mix ratio: Part A and Part B must be thoroughly mixed. Inaccuracies will lower physical properties, prevent satisfactory curing, and cause discolouration on ageing.
  • Abrasive preparation required: Bonding to coated surfaces yields inferior strength. All paint, galvanising, and coatings must be removed to reach a bright metal or raw concrete finish.
  • No wire brushing on metal: Hand wire brushing does not provide sufficient mechanical key, resulting in minimal adhesion only.

How to apply

Substrates must be properly prepared to ensure permanent adhesion:

  • Concrete: Must be free from grease and oil. Remove surface laitance via mechanical abrasion (scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding). If mechanical preparation is not possible, acid etch with a 1:1 hydrochloric acid and water mix at 0.5 litres per square metre, allow to react for 10 minutes, scrub, flush clean, and dry for 24 hours. Substrate must be surface dry for maximum adhesion.
  • Metal surfaces: Grit blast to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish, or mechanically grind to a clean, bright metal finish, then degrease by flooding with industrial grade degreaser.
  • Coated surfaces: Remove paint from concrete using a scutching tool or flame cleaning, followed by diamond grinding. Remove paint and galvanising from metals using a quality paint stripper followed by grit blasting or grinding.
  • Cleanup: Clean mixing tools and implements immediately after use with Megapoxy Thinners. Wear disposable rubber gloves during application.

Frequently asked questions

Can Megapoxy PF be used for urgent concrete repairs?

Yes, Megapoxy PF is designed for immediate on-site emergency repairs to concrete structures. It sets in 7 minutes at 25°C and achieves over half its ultimate strength within 15 minutes, allowing for rapid return to service.

Is Megapoxy PF suitable for bonding over painted surfaces?

No, it is recommended to remove all coatings before bonding with Megapoxy PF. Bonding to coated surfaces will result in inferior bond strengths compared to direct adhesion to a properly prepared substrate.

How quickly does Megapoxy PF develop strength?

Megapoxy PF sets in 7 minutes at 25°C and reaches 90% cure within 1 hour at 25°C. It can be machined after 30 minutes of cure at 25°C, providing rapid structural integrity.

What surface preparation is needed for metal substrates?

Metal surfaces should be grit blasted to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish, or mechanically abraded to clean, bright metal. Afterwards, degrease the surface by flooding with an industrial-grade degreaser. Wire brushing is insufficient for maximum adhesion.

Will Megapoxy PF stain natural stone or ceramics?

No, when properly mixed, Megapoxy PF will not stain or discolour white or light-coloured marble and ceramics. This makes it suitable for aesthetic bonding applications.

How to apply Megapoxy PF Rapid Set Epoxy Paste Adhesive:

  1. Prepare Surfaces: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and loose materials.
  2. Mix Components Quickly: Dispense equal parts of Part A (White) and Part B (White or Dark Grey) and mix rapidly and thoroughly for approximately 15-20 seconds until a uniform colour is achieved. Due to the short work time, mix only a small amount at a time.
  3. Apply Immediately: Apply the mixed adhesive to the prepared surfaces immediately within the 3-minute work time. Ensure good contact between the surfaces.
  4. Hold or Clamp: Hold or clamp the bonded parts firmly for at least 10-15 minutes to allow the adhesive to set and gain initial strength. The "hardens-as-you-hold-it" characteristic is key here.
  5. Allow to Cure: Allow the adhesive to cure for the minimum recommended time based on the temperature (2 hours at 15°C, 1 hour at 25°C, 30 minutes at 35°C) before subjecting the bonded area to stress.
  6. Clean Up Quickly: Clean any excess uncured adhesive from tools immediately with Megapoxy Thinners or a suitable solvent. Cured epoxy is very difficult to remove.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Bonding to coated surfaces. Remove all coatings before application to ensure documented bond strengths.
  • Application temperature: Do not apply below 10°C; cure times will be significantly extended at lower temperatures.
  • Mixing accuracy: Deviations from the 1:1 mix ratio or incomplete mixing will reduce physical properties and may prevent satisfactory cure.

Safety and handling

Warning: Megapoxy PF is classified as hazardous according to Safe Work Australia GHS 7 criteria. Both Part A and Part B are Schedule 5 poisons.

Personal protective equipment

Wear safety shoes, gloves (nitrile rubber recommended), and safety glasses. Ensure PPE is suitable for the work and identified hazards. Avoid contact with clothing, skin, and eyes. Use eyewash stations and safety showers if working with the product.

Substrate guide

Proper surface preparation is critical for Megapoxy PF to achieve its documented bond strengths and prevent adhesive failure.

Concrete

Surface prep: Ensure concrete is free from grease and oil. Clean with industrial heavy-duty degreaser if needed. Remove surface laitance via mechanical abrasion like scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding. If mechanical methods are not possible, acid etching with a 1:1 hydrochloric acid and water solution (0.5 L/m²) is an alternative. Allow 10 minutes to react, then wash thoroughly and scrub to remove loose sand. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Concrete must be surface dry for maximum adhesion.

Primer: Not required. Adheres directly to prepared concrete.

Metal surfaces

Surface prep: Grit blast to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish, or mechanically abrade to a clean, bright metal. Immediately degrease the surface by flooding with an industrial-grade degreaser. Wire brushing is not sufficient for optimal adhesion.

Primer: Not required. Adheres directly to prepared metal.

Coated surfaces (e.g., painted concrete, painted/galvanised metal)

Surface prep: All coatings must be fully removed to avoid inferior bond strengths. For painted concrete, flame-clean or mechanically treat with a scutching tool, then diamond grind or scabble. For painted/galvanised metals, use a quality paint stripper, followed by grit blasting or grinding to a bright metal finish.

Primer: Not applicable. Coating removal is mandatory.
