Substrate guide
Proper preparation of the substrate and pipework ensures the waste performs as intended and avoids future failures.
Tile bed / screed
Surface prep: Ensure screed is fully cured and stable. Clean surfaces to remove laitance, dust, and debris. The drain flange must sit flush, requiring a flat surface.
Primer: Not required. For cementitious screeds in good condition, direct embedment is acceptable. Apply waterproofing as per system requirements before tiling.
PVC or ABS drainage systems
Surface prep: Cut and clean pipework for a square, true fit. Use a plastic primer or cleaner to remove manufacturing oils and ensure a secure solvent-weld bond.
Primer: Required. Use an approved PVC/ABS primer prior to solvent welding. Allow full cure time before backfilling or applying mechanical loads.
Waterproof membrane interface
Surface prep: Waterproof membranes must be fully cured and free from contaminants. Ensure the waste flange integrates securely into the membrane system, without pinholing or bridging.
