For bonding melamine faced board and laminates in cabinet making and furniture construction, Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive provides the high-solids adhesion required to join non-porous melamine surfaces to timber substrates without failing.

How it works

Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive is a high-solids PVA/EVA-based adhesive that applies white and dries clear. It is formulated to bond difficult, non-porous melamine faces and laminates to wood-based materials. The formulation requires an exact mechanical fit between the mating surfaces; gaps between substrates will extend drying times and significantly reduce the final strength of the bond.

Numbers that matter

  • 150 g/m² coverage rate: Provides the baseline material estimation for application planning.
  • ~3 minute open time: The narrow window available to assemble and align joints before the adhesive skin forms.
  • 2 to 4 hours clamp time: Required press duration under standard conditions (20°C and 65% Relative Humidity) to achieve initial handling strength.
  • 24 to 48 hours full cure: The time required under standard conditions to achieve maximum bond strength.

Where to use it

  • Kitchen cabinets and drawer assembly
  • Furniture construction
  • Bonding melamine faced board to timber
  • Laminate bonding

Installation limits

Surfaces must be clean and free from oil, dust, and other contaminants. Apply the adhesive evenly to one surface using a squeeze bottle or brush. The parts must be joined within the 3-minute open time and clamped or pressed until sufficient initial bond strength is achieved. For optimal bonding, timber moisture content should be between 8% and 10%, with ambient relative humidity between 60% and 70%.

Clean up wet adhesive and tools immediately with warm soapy water. Once dried, the adhesive cannot be dissolved and must be removed mechanically.

Limitations

  • Non-structural only: This is a non-structural adhesive and must not be used for structural load-bearing applications.
  • Temperature minimum: Do not apply when substrate or ambient temperatures are below 10°C.
  • Storage limits: Store between 5°C and 40°C out of direct sunlight. Do not allow the product to freeze.

Frequently asked questions

Can Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive be used for structural bonding?

No, Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive is a non-structural adhesive. For any application requiring structural integrity, use an adhesive specifically designed and rated for structural loads.

What is the required clamp time for furniture assembly?

The recommended clamp time is 2-4 hours at 20°C and 65% relative humidity. This allows for sufficient initial strength before moving the assembly, with full bond strength achieved in 24-48 hours.

Will this adhesive show through a clear finish?

Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive applies white and dries to a clear finish. This minimises visible glue lines on exposed joints or where a clear protective coating is applied.

What are the ideal application conditions?

Apply this adhesive at temperatures above 10°C. Optimal conditions include timber moisture content of 8-10% and relative humidity of 60-70% for best performance.

Applications and benefits

Where Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive is used, what it delivers, and who uses it
Application Key benefit Primary trades
Cabinet construction Achieves strong, lasting bonds on melamine faced board, a substrate often difficult for general-purpose glues. Dries clear to maintain finish quality. Cabinet makers, Joiners
Furniture assembly Reliable adhesion for internal furniture joints and components made with laminates, preventing premature delamination. Furniture manufacturers, Shop fitters
Laminate bonding Designed for specific adhesion to melamine and other difficult-to-bond surfaces, ensuring joint integrity in manufactured board products. Shop fitters, Carpenters

Applying Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and prepared as per the Adhesion & Preparation Guide. Surfaces should fit closely. Mask adjacent surfaces if required.
  2. Application: Apply adhesive evenly using a squeeze bottle or brush. Join surfaces within the 3-minute open time window. Clamp firmly.
  3. Tooling & Finishing: Remove excess glue before it cures. Maintain clamping pressure for 2–4 hours.
  4. Curing: Allow the assembly to cure undisturbed for 24–48 hours before final machining or load.
Trade-Specific Scenario Guides:
For Cabinetmakers: Flat-Pack Assembly

The Engineering Challenge: Melamine edges often resist bonding due to non-porous surfaces.

The System-Based Solution with Everbond: The PVA/EVA chemistry is optimised for melamine surfaces, delivering reliable wet-out and mechanical lock during pressing.

Best Practice Note: Use light sanding for laminated substrates if unsure of compatibility and maintain consistent clamping pressure throughout the panel.

For Joiners: Kitchen Drawer Box Assembly

The Engineering Challenge: Fast-paced assembly lines require short press times without bond failure.

The System-Based Solution with Everbond: The quick clamp and clear dry finish supports tight production cycles while delivering reliable strength on vertical joints.

Best Practice Note: Apply only as much adhesive as needed—over-application can lead to excess squeeze-out and visual imperfections on finished cabinetry.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Structural applications. This adhesive is non-structural.
  • Not for: Application below 10°C. Lower temperatures will extend cure times and reduce bond strength.
  • Not for: Continuous immersion or high-moisture environments. This product is for interior, controlled-environment use.

Safety and handling

Warning: Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause respiratory irritation.

Personal protective equipment

Wear impervious gloves (e.g., nitrile rubber), safety glasses, and an apron. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Ventilation

Use in a well-ventilated area. Local exhaust ventilation may be required to maintain air concentrations below exposure standards.

First aid

  • Inhalation: Remove person to fresh air. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
  • Skin contact: Immediately wash with water and soap. Seek medical advice if irritation or rash occurs.
  • Eye contact: Rinse opened eye for 20 minutes under running water. Consult a doctor immediately.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Call a Poisons Information Centre (Australia 131 126) or a doctor immediately.

Storage and disposal

Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated conditions, out of direct sunlight. Do not store below 5°C or above 40°C. Keep containers tightly closed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C in unopened containers. Dispose of product in accordance with local regulations; it is slightly hazardous for water.

Substrate guide

Proper surface preparation ensures reliable bonding and maximises the performance of Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive.

Melamine faced board and laminates

Surface prep: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, dust, and other contaminants. Ensure mating surfaces achieve an exact fit to prevent extended drying times and compromised bond strength.

Primer: Not required. Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive is formulated for direct adhesion to melamine and laminate surfaces.
