Terrafix Geo Textile 2m Wide

Terrafix Geo Fabric is a 2m-wide, Australian-made non-woven geotextile built for coastal stabilisation, landfill liners, and civil drainage. It handles hydrocarbon exposure, UV, and abrasion without losing strength, and its high elongation means it won't tear up during install or lose soil contact on uneven ground. Not for structural reinforcement on its own. It's a filtration and separation layer, not a load-bearing fabric. If you need tensile reinforcement, spec a woven product instead.

Frequently asked questions

What are the primary uses for Terrafix Geo Fabric?

Terrafix Geo Fabric is used for soil filtration, separation, and drainage in civil engineering, coastal stabilisation, and landfill lining systems. It prevents soil particle migration while allowing water flow, crucial for long-term project integrity.

How does Terrafix Geo Fabric protect geomembrane liners?

It significantly reduces stress on impermeable liners by distributing loads and preventing puncture from aggregate. This protection is vital for maintaining the integrity of landfill and containment systems over time.

Is this geo fabric suitable for coastal or exposed environments?

Yes, Terrafix Geo Fabric offers high abrasion and UV resistance, making it suitable for stabilising coastal structures. This ensures durability in harsh environmental conditions where exposure is constant.

What are its hydraulic properties?

Terrafix Geo Fabric provides optimal pore size and permeability for effective filtration. It has a coefficient of permeability ranging from 20 x 10-4 m/s to 48 x 10-4 m/s, ensuring efficient water movement through the system.

Can Terrafix Geo Fabric withstand chemical exposure?

Yes, it demonstrates high retention of strength after hydrocarbon (diesel) exposure, specifically over 90% in tested grades. This makes it a reliable choice for contaminated environments such as landfill and industrial sites.

Limitations and Safety Info
x

Product limitations

  • Installation: Requires adherence to proper installation techniques to prevent damage and ensure specified performance. Incorrect handling or placement can compromise its function.
  • Grade selection: The correct Terrafix Geo Fabric grade must be selected based on specific project requirements, loads, and environmental conditions. Using an underspecified grade can lead to premature failure.
  • Storage: Protect rolls from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during storage to prevent UV degradation before installation.

Safety and handling

Personal protective equipment

Wear appropriate work gloves and safety footwear when handling and installing. Consider safety glasses for cutting operations.

Handling

Handle rolls with care to avoid trips, falls, and musculoskeletal injuries. Use appropriate lifting equipment for larger rolls.

Cutting

Use sharp, appropriate cutting tools such as heavy-duty utility knives or powered shears. Exercise caution to prevent injury during cutting.

Storage and disposal

Store rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Dispose of waste material according to local regulations for inert construction waste.

Suitable Substrates
x

Substrate guide

Proper ground preparation is critical for the long-term performance of Terrafix Geo Fabric, ensuring stability and preventing premature failure.

Soil

Surface prep: Prepare the subgrade to a stable, even surface free of sharp objects, large stones, or debris that could damage the fabric. Compact as required for the application.

Primer: Not required. The fabric is laid directly onto the prepared soil.

Sand

Surface prep: Ensure the sand bed is level and free of foreign materials. Compact as necessary to provide a firm base, particularly in coastal or hydraulic applications.

Primer: Not required. The fabric acts as a separation and filtration layer within the sand.

Aggregate

Surface prep: Grade the aggregate layer to ensure a smooth, stable surface. Remove any sharp edges or protruding aggregate that could stress the fabric.

Primer: Not required. The fabric is positioned between aggregate layers for separation.

Geomembranes

Surface prep: Ensure the geomembrane surface is clean, dry, and free of wrinkles or creases. The geo fabric is applied as a protective layer, so the underlying membrane must be correctly installed.

Primer: Not required. The geo fabric provides a cushioning and protective barrier for the geomembrane.
