For cabinetry, shopfitting, and joinery applications requiring a sandable, non-staining timber bond, Everbond General Purpose PVA provides a reliable joint that cures to a hard, translucent film. This synthetic resin adhesive is formulated for standard workshop assembly, laminating, and veneering where high moisture resistance is not a primary requirement.

How it works

Everbond General Purpose PVA cures through water dissipation and crosslinking under ambient conditions. The adhesive resists normal humidity cycles and inhibits the growth of mould, bacteria, and fungi. Full cure is achieved when the adhesive interphase reaches moisture equilibrium, which typically takes approximately seven days depending on timber density, moisture content, adhesive mass, and ambient conditions.

For specialized lines, water resistance can be increased and the cure accelerated by thermo-curing. This requires mixing Catalyst Number 1 at a rate of 1% w/w before hot pressing.

Numbers that matter

  • 48/50% solids content: Provides a stable resin density to minimize excessive shrinkage during water dissipation.
  • 80 to 140 g/m² spread rate: The required adhesive coverage for surface bonding applications to ensure complete wet-out without excessive squeeze-out.
  • 160 to 180 g/m² spread rate: The required adhesive coverage for structural assembly bonding.
  • 8°C minimum application temperature: The lowest allowable substrate and workshop temperature to ensure proper film formation and bonding.

Where to use it

  • Assembly bonding: Standard dowel, carcass, and general timber joinery.
  • Board joints and block bonding: Solid timber laminating and edge gluing.
  • Laminating and veneering: Surface gluing of decorative papers, timber veneers, and high-pressure laminates (HPL) to particle board or solid timber.

Pressing times and thermo-curing

Minimum pressing times vary by application and heating method:

  • Surface gluing of decorative papers: From 10 seconds.
  • High frequency gluing (longitudinal heating): From 20 seconds.
  • Surface gluing of high-pressure laminates in short-cycle presses (+70°C): From 60 seconds.
  • Assembly bonding: 30 minutes under clamp pressure.
  • Board joints and block bonding: 45 minutes under clamp pressure.

For hot-press thermo-curing (applicable for 1-2mm timber veneer to solid timber or particle board with 8-12% timber moisture), apply an adhesive spread rate of 150 to 200 g/m² and press at 4 to 5 kp/cm² for:

  • 30 seconds at 80°C, or
  • 30 seconds at 130°C.

Limitations

  • Not waterproof: Do not use in external applications, wet areas, or areas subject to water immersion. It is suitable only for normal dry interior humidity cycles.
  • Shelf life: Use within 6 months of manufacture when stored in original packaging.
  • Temperature range: Store indoors between 10°C and 30°C. Do not apply if the temperature is below 8°C.

Application and clean-up

Ensure the adhesive is completely homogenous before use. Clean all brushes, rollers, and glue baths with water immediately after use, before the adhesive dries. Once cured, the film can only be removed mechanically by sanding.

Is General Purpose PVA waterproof?
No. It is for normal dry interior humidity cycles, not exterior or wet-area use.

What spread rate should I use?
Use about 80 to 140g/m² for surface bonding and 160 to 180g/m² for assembly work.

What is the minimum application temperature?
8°C.

How long does full cure take?
Typically about 7 days, depending on timber, adhesive mass and ambient conditions.

General-purpose PVA adhesive for interior cabinetry, shopfitting, laminating, veneering and timber joinery. Dries to a hard, translucent film that can be sanded. Typical spread rate is 80 to 140g/m² for surface bonding and 160 to 180g/m² for assembly bonding. Minimum application temperature is 8°C. Full cure typically takes about 7 days depending on timber and ambient conditions.
Make sure the adhesive is homogeneous before use. Apply 80 to 140g/m² for surface bonding or 160 to 180g/m² for assembly bonding. Assemble and clamp or press components in line with the timber or laminate process being used. For specialised thermo-cure production, Catalyst Number 1 may be added at 1% w/w where the documented process calls for it. Clean brushes, rollers and glue baths with water before the adhesive dries. Allow the bond to reach full moisture equilibrium before demanding service.
Not waterproof. Do not use for exterior work, wet areas or water immersion. Do not apply below 8°C. Store indoors between 10°C and 30°C. Use within the documented 6-month shelf life when stored in original packaging.
  • Solid timber and general joinery components.
  • Particleboard.
  • Timber veneer and decorative papers.
  • High-pressure laminate bonded to timber or particleboard.
