When woodworking projects demand more than just a strong bond—when they face moisture, humidity, or even incidental water exposure—standard PVA adhesives won't hold up. You need a joint that resists degradation, maintains structural integrity, and delivers verified performance over time. Everbond PVA Xlink 3 provides that reliability. It’s the single-component, water-borne adhesive engineered to achieve firm, very water-resistant bonds in your critical woodworking applications.

Why this product exists

We formulated Everbond PVA Xlink 3 as a self-crosslinking synthetic resin adhesive specifically for the woodworking industry. This unique chemistry allows it to form exceptionally firm, very water-resistant bonds for applications like cabinetry, shopfitting, and joinery. Unlike conventional PVA adhesives, Xlink 3 achieves durability standards for interior and exterior use, preventing joint failure caused by moisture exposure and ensuring long-term bond integrity.

The numbers that matter

Everbond PVA Xlink 3 is independently certified to AS 2754.2 1991 and EN204, signifying its proven performance for durability under specified exposure conditions. Expect consistent application with a white liquid consistency and a viscosity between 9300-13500 cP for reliable flow. For high-volume work, surface gluing of decorative papers can achieve initial bond in as little as 10 seconds, while assembly bonding requires 30 minutes before clamp removal. Plan for an adhesive spread of 80-140 g/m² for surface bonding and 160-180 g/m² for assembly work, ensuring optimal coverage and cost-efficiency.

What it's like to use

This is a single-component adhesive, so no mixing is required; simply ensure it is homogenous before use. Apply Everbond PVA Xlink 3 when the minimum application temperature is above 8°C. It cures through water dissipation and self-crosslinking, forming a firm, very water-resistant bond. For accelerated curing and enhanced water resistance, you have the option of thermocuring or hot pressing. You can also mix in catalyst number 1 at 1% w/w for further increased water resistance under thermocuring conditions. Clean brushes, rollers, and glue baths with water before the adhesive dries. Always refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before handling to understand specific precautions and PPE requirements.

Where this product excels

  • Hardwood Joint Bonding: Create robust, very water-resistant joints in all types of timber, compliant with interior and exterior exposure standards for durability.
  • Timber and Veneer Laminating: Achieve rapid bonding, especially under hot press conditions, streamlining production for cabinetry and furniture manufacturing.
  • Dowelling and Assembly: Benefit from fast initial set times, allowing clamp removal for assembly bonding in as little as 30 minutes, increasing workshop throughput.
  • Cabinetry and Shopfitting: Construct durable, long-lasting furniture and fixtures that withstand humidity and incidental moisture without compromising structural integrity.

Choose this when

  • When your woodworking project requires a very water-resistant bond that will endure moisture exposure.
  • When working with timber, veneers, or particle board, where proven adhesion and durability are critical.
  • When you need an adhesive that is certified to AS 2754.2 1991 and EN204 for verified performance.
  • When you require flexibility for ambient or accelerated hot press curing to meet production schedules.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Applications requiring high movement capability, as its movement capability is rated as 1, indicating it's designed for rigid bonds, not dynamic joints.
  • Not for: Non-porous or non-timber substrates without thorough testing, as its formulation is optimised for wood and wood products.
  • Not for: Interior cabinetry or dry-standard applications where extreme water resistance is not a primary concern. Instead, consider Everbond General Purpose PVA Adhesive.
  • Not for: Bonding melamine boards where a clear-drying finish is essential. For this, consider Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive.

Everbond PVA Xlink 3 is independently tested and certified to AS 2754.2 1991 and EN204. This means the adhesive meets stringent Australian and European standards for durability and resistance to moisture exposure, providing verified performance for your woodworking projects.

Choosing the right Everbond PVA

Everbond PVA Xlink 3 is engineered for very water-resistant bonds, a critical distinction from standard PVA adhesives. If your project demands high moisture resistance and compliance with AS 2754.2 and EN204, Xlink 3 is the correct choice. For general interior cabinetry or woodworking where dry conditions prevail and extreme water resistance isn't needed, Everbond General Purpose PVA Adhesive offers a suitable and economical solution. When working specifically with melamine boards and requiring a clear-drying finish, Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive is formulated for that specific application. Choose Xlink 3 when the bond must withstand moisture exposure and maintain integrity under challenging conditions, a capability not offered by standard PVA products.

Frequently asked questions

Does Everbond PVA Xlink 3 suit kitchen and bathroom joinery?

Yes, it is rated water-resistant to AS 2754.2 and EN204, making it suitable for internal applications subject to incidental moisture. This provides reliability for cabinetry and shopfitting.

What timber moisture content is recommended for best results?

For optimal performance, especially with thermocuring, timber should have a moisture content between 8-12%. Consistent timber moisture helps achieve the strongest, most durable bond.

Can I use this glue for outdoor applications?

Everbond PVA Xlink 3 provides a very water-resistant bond suitable for internal joinery, not continuous outdoor exposure or situations requiring full waterproofing. It is designed for applications with incidental moisture exposure.

How fast does Everbond PVA Xlink 3 cure?

Pressing times vary from 10 seconds for decorative papers to 45 minutes for board joints under ambient conditions. Thermocuring significantly accelerates the process, achieving full strength in as little as 30 seconds for veneers.

Applying Everbond PVA Xlink 3: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure all substrates are dry, clean, and dust-free. For assemblies, fit components within the open time of the adhesive.
  2. Application: Apply adhesive using roller, brush, or glue bath at the recommended spread rate. Use clamps or press systems to ensure full bond contact.
  3. Tooling & Finishing: Excess glue should be cleaned immediately with water before drying. Do not disturb during initial cure phase.
  4. Curing: Allow 30–45 minutes for initial set. For thermocuring, follow cycle: 30 sec @ 80°C + 30 sec @ 130°C.
Trade-Specific Scenario Guides:
