Static cracks in concrete, porous masonry, or timber substrates require an extra low viscosity resin for deep penetration and permanent repair. Megapoxy HX delivers a 100% solids, high-strength liquid resin. It tackles crack repair, impregnates and hardens surfaces, or forms the backbone of robust laminating and casting jobs.

Why this product exists

Megapoxy HX was specifically formulated as an extra low viscosity, 100% solids epoxy resin. It creates high-strength, permanent bonds by penetrating deeply into fine static cracks and porous materials. This solvent-free, hydrophilic liquid resin is designed for structural repair, impregnation, and high-performance bonding.

The numbers that matter

  • Mixed Viscosity: 200 cps at 25°C. This extra low viscosity ensures Megapoxy HX penetrates hairline cracks and porous substrates deeply, essential for permanent structural repairs and thorough impregnation.
  • Ultimate Compressive Strength: 140 MPa. This significantly exceeds standard concrete strength, providing a repair or bond that often outperforms the substrate itself.
  • Tensile Strength: 59 MPa. High tensile strength makes it suitable for demanding applications like fibreglass laminating, creating robust and void-free composites.
  • Work Time: 60 minutes at 25°C. This generous pot life allows ample time for careful application, especially for injection or impregnation processes.

What it's like to use

Accurate mixing is critical for Megapoxy HX. Combine 3 parts A to 1 part B by volume, mixing thoroughly until homogenous to achieve the specified physical properties. Pot life is 60 minutes at 25°C, providing a practical working window for injection or impregnation.

  • Surface Preparation: For concrete, clean and degrease, then mechanically abrade or acid etch to remove laitance. Ensure the surface is dry for maximum adhesion. For metal, grit blast or mechanically abrade to a bright finish, followed by degreasing. All existing coatings must be removed to prevent bond failure.
  • Cleaning: Use Megapoxy Thinners to clean tools and mixing equipment immediately after use.

Where this product excels

  • Static Concrete Crack Repair: Its extra low viscosity is ideal for injecting hairline cracks in concrete, including those under membranes or tiles, ensuring deep penetration and structural restoration.
  • Porous Substrate Impregnation: Megapoxy HX effectively seals and strengthens porous materials like masonry and timber through capillary action, enhancing durability and preventing further degradation.
  • High-Strength Laminating and Casting: As a low-viscosity resin, it achieves excellent wet-out for fibreglass work, creating void-free, robust laminates and high-strength cast components.
  • Surface Hardening: Use it to increase the wear resistance and durability of concrete and masonry surfaces, extending their lifespan in high-traffic or exposed areas.

How it fits in a real system

Megapoxy HX frequently appears as the second step in a multi-stage concrete crack repair sequence. It is often injected into static cracks after the surface has been prepared and sealed with a complementary product like Megapoxy PM. This two-step process ensures the low-viscosity HX resin is precisely delivered into the crack without leakage, providing a secure, high-strength repair.

Choose this when

  • You need to repair static hairline cracks in concrete, including those under membrane or tiled finishes, using injection or capillary action.
  • Porous substrates like masonry or timber require deep impregnation and strengthening to improve durability.
  • High-strength, solvent-free laminating or casting is required, particularly for fibreglass work, where excellent wet-out and void-free results are critical.
  • The application demands an extra low viscosity (200 cps) epoxy resin for maximum penetration and structural integrity.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Active or moving cracks. Megapoxy HX is designed for static cracks not expected to undergo further movement, as it provides a rigid bond.
  • Not for: Bulk surface repair or as a thick filler. Its thin liquid consistency is for injection, impregnation, and thin-film applications.
  • Not for: Bonding to existing coatings. All coatings must be removed from the substrate to ensure proper adhesion and prevent bond failure.
  • Not for: Improper mixing. Inaccurate mix ratios or insufficient mixing will compromise the cure, strength, and overall performance of the system.

Megapoxy HX is classified as a Hazardous Chemical and Dangerous Goods (Parts A and B carry different classifications) under Australian regulations. Both components are Schedule 5 Poisons (Caution). Ensure proper handling, storage, and personal protective equipment are used in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet.

Megapoxy HX vs. Megapoxy PM

Megapoxy HX is an extra low viscosity, thin liquid resin engineered for deep penetration into static cracks and porous materials via injection or capillary action. In contrast, Megapoxy PM is a complementary non-sag epoxy paste system. It is specifically designed for surface sealing during Megapoxy HX crack injection processes, providing a secure cap to contain the injected resin.

Frequently asked questions

How fine a crack can Megapoxy HX repair?

Megapoxy HX's extra low viscosity of 200 cps is formulated for deep penetration into very fine concrete cracks. This allows for thorough impregnation and permanent repair, even where higher viscosity products would not reach.

Can I use Megapoxy HX on wet concrete?

No. For maximum adhesion, the concrete surface must be dry. After surface preparation, allow concrete to dry for 24 hours before application. This ensures optimal bond strength and performance.

What happens if Megapoxy HX is not mixed correctly?

Inaccurate mixing ratios or insufficient mixing will compromise the cured system. This can lead to lower physical properties, unsatisfactory cure, or discolouration. Always adhere to the 3 Part A to 1 Part B volume ratio and mix thoroughly.

Is Megapoxy HX suitable for fibreglass laminating?

Yes, Megapoxy HX is suitable as a low viscosity laminating resin for fibreglass. Its thin consistency ensures full wet-out of the material, which is critical for achieving strong, void-free laminates.

Substrate guide

Proper surface preparation is crucial for Megapoxy HX to achieve its documented bond strengths and ensure a lasting repair or bond.

Concrete

Surface prep: Ensure concrete is free from grease and oil. Clean with an industrial heavy-duty degreaser if needed. Remove surface laitance by mechanical abrasion (scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding). If mechanical abrasion is not feasible, acid etch with a 1:1 hydrochloric acid and water solution at 0.5 L/m². Allow 10 minutes to react, then wash thoroughly and scrub to remove loose sand. Allow to dry for 24 hours. For maximum adhesion, the concrete must be surface dry.

Primer: Not required. Megapoxy HX is designed for direct application to prepared concrete.

Metal

Surface prep: Grit blast to AS 1627.2.2002 standard. If grit blasting is not possible, mechanically abrade to a clean, bright metal finish. After abrasion, degrease the surface by flooding with an industrial-grade degreaser. Wire brushing is insufficient and will yield minimal adhesion.

Primer: Not required. The product is designed to bond directly to prepared metal surfaces.

Coated surfaces

Surface prep: It is critical to remove all existing coatings prior to bonding. Bonding to coated surfaces will result in inferior bond strengths compared to bonding directly to a properly prepared substrate.

  • Coated Concrete: Flame-clean or mechanically treat with a scutching tool to remove all traces of paint. Complete preparation by diamond grinding or scabbling.
  • Coated Metals: Use a quality paint stripper to remove all paint and/or galvanizing. Follow with grit blasting or grinding to a bright metal finish.

Primer: Not required after complete removal of coatings and proper substrate preparation.
