Superior, long-lasting adhesion for your sealants and membranes starts here. Everflex Supaprime ensures Adheseal sealants and Everflex waterproof membranes bond correctly to common porous building materials. Achieve maximum bond strength on concrete, masonry, timber, and fibre cement sheeting, setting up your next step for success.

Why this product exists

Everflex Supaprime is a single-part, rapid-curing, moisture-curing polyurethane primer. It is engineered to penetrate deeply into porous substrates, forming a robust anchor for Adheseal's range of polyurethane, MS, and silicone sealants, as well as Everflex waterproof membranes. This deep penetration and enhanced adhesion prevent premature bond failure and delamination, ensuring the long-term integrity of your system.

The numbers that matter

  • Viscosity: 30-60 cps. This low viscosity allows Supaprime to soak deep into porous substrates like concrete and masonry. You get maximum penetration for mechanical adhesion, not just a surface film.
  • Tack-Free: 0.5 - 1 hour at 23°C. After a maximum of one hour, Supaprime forms a translucent film that is ready for the application of subsequent coatings or compounds. This rapid cure time keeps your project moving.
  • Solids Content: 30-34%. This high solids content ensures a substantial amount of active polyurethane resin is delivered deep into the substrate, providing a dense, durable layer for superior bonding.
  • Coverage: 5 - 10 m²/litre. Adjust your consumption based on substrate porosity. Less porous surfaces will use less product, while highly absorbent materials will require more.

What it's like to use

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Mechanically prepare very dense or contaminated concrete by dry diamond grinding to create an open, porous profile. Apply Everflex Supaprime by brush or roller, ensuring complete saturation. The surface should remain wet for two minutes, allowing maximum absorption. Exceptionally porous substrates may benefit from a second coat. Allow the primer to dry to a translucent, tack-free film before applying sealants or membranes. While wet, clean tools and spills efficiently with Acetone.

Where this product excels

  • Movement joints in wet areas, kitchens, and laundries: Achieve reliable, long-lasting sealant adhesion to concrete, cement sheeting, or wet area plasterboard, crucial for preventing water ingress in high-moisture environments.
  • Concrete surfaces prior to membrane or tile application: Prime concrete or sand cement screeds before applying Everflex waterproof membranes or tiling systems. This enhances the bond strength and ensures the system performs as designed.
  • Fenestration applications: When installing windows, doors, or curtain walls into porous surrounds like brickwork or concrete, Supaprime creates a dependable bond for perimeter sealants, ensuring a weather-tight seal.
  • General porous building materials: Effectively primes timber flooring, masonry, render, and Hebel blocks, ready for Adheseal sealants and adhesives.

How it fits in a real system

Everflex Supaprime is your critical first step for robust sealant and membrane systems on porous surfaces. It is typically applied to concrete, brick, and other absorbent substrates, forming the foundation for subsequent layers. For movement joints in concrete and brick, it precedes products like Adheseal PU25. Where a project involves both porous and non-porous substrates within the same joint or area, Supaprime works in conjunction with Adheseal 50A Surface Prep, ensuring every surface receives the correct adhesion promoter before sealant application.

Choose this when

  • When sealing movement joints in wet areas, kitchens, or laundries on porous substrates like concrete or wet area plasterboard.
  • When priming concrete or sand cement screed for Everflex waterproof membranes or tiling systems.
  • When applying perimeter sealants to windows, doors, or curtain walls set into porous brickwork or concrete.
  • When you require deep penetration and enhanced adhesion for polyurethane, MS, or silicone sealants on any approved porous building material.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Non-porous surfaces. This product is specifically formulated for porous materials. For non-porous substrates like metals, glass, or glazed tiles, use a dedicated non-porous primer like Adheseal 50A Surface Prep.
  • Not for: Damp, wet, or contaminated substrates. Ensure surfaces are completely dry and free of all contaminants to prevent bond failure. Do not apply if rain is imminent.
  • Not for: Hydrostatic pressure or rising damp. Everflex Supaprime is an adhesion primer, not a moisture barrier. For areas with hydrostatic pressure or rising damp, a dedicated product like Everflex VBS or Megapoxy H is required.
  • Not for: Long-term UV exposure. This primer has limited UV resistance and must be overcoated with a sealant, adhesive, or membrane for protection.
  • Not for: Extreme temperatures. Do not apply when ambient or substrate temperatures are below 10 °C or above 35 °C.

As a Class 3 Flammable Liquid (UN1992, Packing Group III), Everflex Supaprime requires careful handling. Ensure adequate ventilation during application and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator, gloves, overalls, and eye protection. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full hazard and first aid information.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use Everflex Supaprime?

Use Everflex Supaprime as a bond-enhancing primer for porous substrates before applying Adheseal sealants or Everflex waterproofing membranes. It ensures deep penetration and a reliable bond, reducing the risk of delamination on concrete, masonry, or timber.

Can Everflex Supaprime be used on damp surfaces?

No, do not apply Everflex Supaprime to damp, wet, or contaminated substrates. The surface must be thoroughly dry and clean to ensure proper penetration and adhesion, preventing bond failure.

How quickly can I apply sealants or membranes after priming?

Allow 0.5 to 1 hour for Everflex Supaprime to become tack-free to a translucent film at 23°C before applying coatings or compounds. This rapid cure window allows for efficient sequencing on site.

What is the coverage rate for Everflex Supaprime?

Expect a coverage rate of approximately 5 to 10 square metres per litre, depending on the porosity of the substrate. Highly porous surfaces will absorb more primer.

Application

Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be structurally sound, stable, dry, clean, and free of dust, loose, flaking, friable material and free from oils, grease, form release agents, curing compounds, and any other surface contamination that may hinder adhesion.

If mechanical preparation is required, prepare the floor using recommended methods, such as dry diamond grinding to provide a roughened, clean, sound, and open porous surface. Thoroughly vacuum loose material and dust. Do not use solvents or acid etching to clean the subfloor. Substrate must be free from surface water and continual dampness.

Concrete must be allowed to cure for at least 28 days. Sand cement screeds to be a 3:1 ratio, and cement render must be allowed to cure for at least 4 days prior to application. Failure to do so may result in poor adhesion and subsequent delamination.

Priming Concrete Surfaces

Apply by brush and/or roller, ensuring the entire area is completely primed. The primer should stay wet on the surface for 2 minutes. Exceptionally porous substrates may require a second coat of Primer 2001. Allow 60 minutes for curing.

Determining Substrate Porosity

To determine whether the substrate is porous or non-porous, dispense water onto the substrate to form a puddle approximately the size of a 1-dollar coin.

  • If the water absorbs into the substrate in less than two minutes, the substrate is porous.
  • If the puddle remains, the substrate is non-porous.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Areas subject to hydrostatic pressure or rising damp. For these conditions, Everflex VBS or Megapoxy H are recommended.
  • Not for: Application when substrate or ambient temperatures are below 10 °C or above 35 °C.
  • Not for: Long-term UV exposure without overcoating, due to limited UV resistance.
  • Not for: Application on damp, wet, or contaminated substrates, during rain, or when rain is imminent, as this will compromise adhesion.
