Yes, Selsil Ultra Clear is suitable for bathroom mirror sealing. It is non-staining, adheres well to glass and painted surfaces, and offers resistance to moisture and chemicals. Avoid alcohol or solvent-based cleaners during the curing process.
Tack-free time is approximately 35 minutes at 25°C and 50% relative humidity. Full cure depends on joint size and ambient conditions, typically requiring 24–48 hours for complete through-curing. Plan for this window before placing the area into full service.
Selsil Ultra Clear bonds effectively to aluminium, stainless steel, and other metal surfaces. For best results, ensure all metal surfaces are clean and degreased. For critical metal-to-metal joints, consider using a metal primer.
Do not use Selsil Ultra Clear on bituminous surfaces, EPDM, HDPE, natural rubber, PE, Teflon, or Delrin. These materials can compromise adhesion or cause issues with curing due to migrating plasticisers or oils.
| Application | Key benefit | Primary trades |
|---|---|---|
| Glass-to-aluminium facade sealing | Delivers a crystal-clear, non-yellowing finish with high UV stability for exterior aesthetics. | Glaziers, builders |
| Mirror and splashback installation | Non-staining formulation prevents desilvering of mirrors and maintains clarity in wet areas. | Cabinet makers, renovators |
| Ceramic tile repair and gap sealing | Offers excellent adhesion to glazed surfaces and accommodates movement without cracking. | Waterproofers, tilers |
| Interior glass panel bonding | Low VOC, solvent-free chemistry ensures safe use in indoor environments. | Shopfitters, joiners |
| Exterior trim and flashing joints | Provides reliable weatherproofing with high resistance to UV and temperature extremes. | Builders, cladding installers |
All surfaces must be solid, clean, and dry. Remove dust, oil, loose materials, and contaminants. Use isopropyl alcohol or suitable cleaner depending on the substrate.
Wipe with lint-free cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Avoid contact with bare hands post-cleaning.
Ensure paint is fully cured. Lightly abrade glossy areas to enhance adhesion.
Cut nozzle to desired bead width and apply sealant in a steady, continuous bead. Apply with a standard caulking gun.
Use a 5mm x 5mm bead as a minimum. Joint width should be twice the depth (e.g., 10mm wide x 5mm deep).
For mirror or panel fixing, apply spaced adhesive dots at 10cm intervals.
Tool the sealant immediately after application using a dry spatula or tool. Remove excess with a clean cloth.
Allow the sealant to fully cure before exposure to water or movement. Clean tools and surfaces with solvent before curing. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.
Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles. Avoid prolonged skin and eye contact during handling.
Ensure adequate ventilation during application, especially when working in confined indoor spaces, to minimise exposure to vapours.
Seek medical attention immediately in all cases of serious exposure.
Store in original unopened packaging between 5°C and 25°C. Keep away from heat sources. Dispose of product and packaging according to local regulations.
Proper surface preparation and priming are critical for reliable adhesion and long-term performance.
Surface prep: Ensure glass is clean, dry, and free from grease or soap residues. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol using a lint-free cloth.
Primer: Not required. Direct adhesion is effective when the surface is dry and within the application temperature range.
Surface prep: Remove surface oxidation with a Scotch-Brite pad, then clean with an alcohol-based cleaner. Ensure no oil residues remain.
Primer: Optional. For critical joints or structural assemblies, Selsil MetalBond Primer is recommended to enhance adhesion.
Surface prep: Ensure tiles are clean, dry, and free of soap, mould, and grout dust. Use diluted vinegar if necessary to remove stubborn residues.
Primer: Not required. Selsil Ultra Clear bonds reliably to glazed surfaces without primer.
Surface prep: Ensure painted surfaces are fully cured (minimum 7 days) and clean. Lightly abrade gloss finishes to improve mechanical grip.
Primer: Optional. Test adhesion on a small area. If adhesion is poor, use a compatible timber primer for best results.
Surface prep: Wipe with a plastic cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Roughen glossy surfaces with fine sandpaper to improve grip.
Primer: Required for critical bonding. Use a specialty plastic primer like PlasticPrep 1200 compatible with the specific plastic type.
