Achieve high-performance, durable tiling with a single, versatile adhesive. This formulation handles internal, external, and immersed applications, including large format tiles, porcelain, and natural stone. Your installation remains precise, even on walls, with a reliable bond backed by C2TES1 classification.
Why this product exists
Gripset C-Mastic is a premium polymer modified tile adhesive engineered for demanding tiling projects. It delivers enhanced workability and non-slump properties, ensuring precision with large format tiles on both floors and walls. Beyond its performance, this adhesive features a respirable silica-free formulation, prioritising applicator health on site. Its design provides a broad application range, from general internal and external areas to fully immersed applications.
The numbers that matter
-
C2TES1 Classification: This is a high-performance adhesive. C2 indicates improved adhesion, vital for durable bonds in challenging conditions. T denotes non-slump properties, critical for vertical applications and preventing large format tiles from slipping. E signifies extended open time, allowing more flexibility during placement. S1 indicates deformability, enabling the adhesive to withstand thermal and structural movements without cracking, reducing callback risk.
-
Tensile Adhesion Strength (≥1 MPa): Maintaining a minimum of 1 Megapascal after dry cure, water immersion, and freeze/thaw cycles ensures a robust, long-lasting bond. This consistency across varied environmental exposures translates directly to durability in pools, external balconies, and high-traffic areas, reducing bond failure risks.
What it's like to use
Mix Gripset C-Mastic with 5.5-6 litres of clean water per 20kg bag, using an electric stirrer to achieve a smooth, lump-free consistency. After a 3-minute stand, re-stir and apply with an appropriately sized notched trowel. For tiles larger than 300x300mm or with clip systems, back-buttering the tiles is required to ensure full adhesive coverage and prevent voids. This practice maintains the bond and prevents tile lipping.
The adhesive offers a 30-minute open time and 40 minutes of adjustment time, providing ample opportunity for precise tile placement. Grouting can commence after 24 hours, once the adhesive has sufficiently hardened. Keep surfaces clean with a damp cloth or sponge while the adhesive is still wet. Dried adhesive requires mechanical removal.
Where this product excels
-
Wet areas: bathrooms, showers, laundries, kitchens: Gripset C-Mastic is a trusted tile adhesive for floors and walls in these moisture-prone internal environments. Its C2TES1 classification ensures the bond withstands the humidity and temperature fluctuations common in these spaces.
-
External areas and immersed applications: From balconies to swimming pools and their surrounds, this adhesive performs reliably. Its tested adhesion strength after water immersion and freeze/thaw cycles makes it suitable for areas exposed to the elements or constant moisture.
-
Large format tiles: The non-slump characteristics and enhanced workability are specifically beneficial for installing large format tiles on both walls and floors. This prevents tile movement during installation and ensures a flat, even finish.
How it fits in a real system
Gripset C-Mastic is typically applied after substrate preparation and any required priming, and crucially, after the installation of waterproofing membranes in wet areas. In tiled wet areas like bathrooms, laundries, and common area powder rooms, the C-Mastic serves as the tile adhesive, providing the critical bond for the final tiled finish. It frequently precedes the application of a flexible sanitary silicone sealant, such as Adheseal S100 Sanitary Silicone Sealant, to seal movement joints and perimeter details, ensuring a complete, watertight system.
Before application, porous or non-porous surfaces may require priming with Gripset GP Primer or Gripset OP Primer to optimise adhesion, depending on substrate type. This ensures a stable base for the adhesive, especially over substrates like concrete, screed, render, and compressed fibre cement sheeting.
Choose this when
-
When fixing a wide range of tiles, including porcelain, vitrified, mosaics, and non-moisture sensitive natural stone, in internal or external settings.
-
For projects involving large format tiles, requiring a non-slump adhesive with extended open time.
-
Installing tiles in wet areas, swimming pools, or pool surrounds that demand high water and freeze/thaw resistance.
-
You require a respirable silica-free formulation for improved on-site health and safety.
-
Tiling over approved Gripset waterproofing membranes, concrete, screed, render, masonry, blockwork, plasterboard, or compressed fibre cement sheeting.
Don't use this when
-
Not for: Fixing tiles directly onto timber floors. These substrates often require specialised timber-compatible adhesives or additional preparatory layers to manage movement.
-
Not for: Use with moisture-sensitive stone. Some natural stones can discolour or warp when exposed to cementitious adhesives; specific rapid-setting, white, or epoxy adhesives are better suited.
-
Not for: Application when surface or ambient temperatures are below 5°C or above 35°C, as this can compromise curing and final bond strength.
Meeting the C2TES1 classification confirms Gripset C-Mastic as a high-performance, cementitious adhesive with improved properties. This includes excellent adhesion (C2), non-slip characteristics (T), extended open time (E), and deformability (S1). These standards are vital for durable installations across a wide range of challenging internal and external tiling applications, providing confidence in its long-term performance.
Gripset C-Mastic vs. Gripset C-Lite Tile Adhesive
While both Gripset C-Mastic and Gripset C-Lite Waterproofing Membrane offer reliable tile fixing, Gripset C-Mastic stands out as a premium, C2TES1 classified, respirable silica-free option. It provides superior non-slump and deformability, making it the ideal choice for demanding projects involving large format tiles, external installations, or immersed areas like swimming pools. Gripset C-Lite, while versatile for general internal wall and floor tiling, may not offer the same enhanced performance characteristics required for these more challenging conditions or for projects where deformability is critical for long-term durability.
