Description

You need that panel or timber to hold its position, immediately. Not after temporary bracing, not after waiting for a slow cure, but right now. Whether you're fixing wallboards or laying sub-flooring, the adhesive needs to grab hard and fast, then maintain that hold against the everyday movement of construction materials. You need a bond that simplifies installation and guarantees long-term stability.

Why this product exists

We formulated Adheseal Multi-Grip as a water-based acrylic adhesive specifically for high initial grab, addressing the need for instant bonding across diverse construction materials. This adhesive takes the stress out of positioning, allowing you to secure timber, plasterboard, metal, and concrete to studs and joists with confidence. It delivers a strong, resilient bond that assists in preventing common site issues like sub-floor squeaks and timber warping as materials settle and dry.

The numbers that matter

With a tensile strength of 1.715 N/mm² after 7 days, Multi-Grip delivers robust holding power. This isn't just a grab; it's a strong, structural bond designed to keep panels and timber securely in place, even under load. Complementing this strength, it offers 15% elongation at break. This flexibility is crucial in construction, absorbing natural movement and preventing rigid bonds that can crack with timber expansion and contraction, which is a common cause of squeaking in sub-flooring. The Shore A hardness of 66 reinforces its resilient, durable finish, ensuring it stands up to the demands of construction environments where a solid, non-yielding bond is required.

What it's like to use

Adheseal Multi-Grip is a paste consistency with a non-sag (anti-drip) formulation, making overhead applications like cornices straightforward. Its skin time of 25 minutes at 25°C and 50% RH provides a workable window for positioning panels before it sets. For effective application, ensure surfaces are clean and dry, then apply an 6-10mm bead to studs or joists. When panels butt, use two beads approximately 25mm apart. Lay sheets into position with minimal movement. For T&G flooring, apply adhesive into the groove to enhance rigidity. Clean up uncured adhesive from tools and equipment using water.

Where this product excels

Multi-Grip is formulated for immediate and lasting hold in critical construction applications. Use it for:

  • Timber to studs and joists: Achieve a strong, instant bond that reduces the need for excessive temporary fasteners.
  • Sub-floor and wall systems: Its high initial grab and flexibility help eliminate floor squeaks and reduce timber warping as structures dry and settle.
  • Cornice and moulding installation: The non-sag consistency ensures easy overhead application and secure bonding of decorative elements.
  • Wall sheeting: Fix plasterboard or fibre cement sheeting confidently, internally or externally, knowing it complies with Australian Standards.
  • Polystyrene foam components: Bond insulation or decorative foam without fear of chemical degradation.

How it fits in a real system

This adhesive is typically a primary bonding agent in timber framing and sheeting installations. Its high initial grab allows you to install components like flooring or wallboards faster, reducing the time spent securing with mechanical fasteners. It functions as the critical bond that holds elements in place, supporting structural integrity and preventing common issues like movement or sound transfer, while other trades complete their work.

Choose this when

  • When you require a high initial grab to hold timber, wallboards, or other construction materials in place immediately.
  • For bonding timber to studs and joists, reducing squeaks and warping in sub-floor constructions.
  • When installing cornices, mouldings, or wall sheeting where a non-sag, overhead-friendly adhesive is essential.
  • For projects requiring an adhesive that complies with AS:2753 and AS:2329 for wallboard fixing.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Applications involving continuous water immersion. This product is water-based and not designed for submerged conditions.
  • Not for: The installation or laying of strip flooring and parquetry floors, as it is not formulated for this specific flooring type.
  • Not for: Projects that demand extreme flexibility with significant joint movement. For highly flexible construction adhesive needs, consider Adheseal Multi-Tack Flexible Construction Adhesive.
  • Not for: Situations where a solvent-based grab adhesive is specifically required. For solvent-based options, look to Adheseal Builders Nails High-Strength Construction Adhesive.

Adheseal Multi-Grip complies with AS:2753 for fixing plasterboard wallboards and AS:2329 for fixing wallboards other than plasterboard. This dual compliance provides assurance for specifying and using this adhesive in standard wallboard installations, confirming its suitability for Australian construction practices.

Common Questions
x

Frequently asked questions

Can this adhesive prevent squeaky floors?

Yes, Multi-Grip is specifically designed for sub-floor and wall systems to minimise movement. Applying a bead to the groove of T&G flooring before placement improves rigidity and prevents squeaks as timber dries.

Is Multi-Grip suitable for plasterboard or wall sheeting installation?

Yes, Multi-Grip complies with AS:2753 for plasterboard and AS:2329 for other wallboards. Its high initial grab and non-sag properties support secure installation of wall sheeting and internal or external mouldings.

Can Multi-Grip be used for all types of timber flooring?

No, it is not suitable for the installation of strip flooring or parquetry floors. It is best suited for bonding timber to studs, joists, and sub-floor panel systems where flexibility and soundproofing are beneficial.

What surfaces can I use this adhesive on?

Multi-Grip bonds timber, plastaboard, metal, concrete F.C. sheeting, and most common construction materials. It can also adhere to damp (not saturated) surfaces.

How To Apply
x

Applying Adheseal Multi-Grip: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and prepared as per the Adhesion & Preparation Guide. Mask adjacent surfaces for a clean finish.
  2. Application: Apply a 6–10mm bead directly to joists, studs, or substrate. For panels that butt together, use two beads 25mm apart. Press panels into place firmly.
  3. Tooling & Finishing: Tool within 10 minutes to achieve full contact. Remove excess before skin formation.
  4. Curing: Avoid movement and water exposure during the first 24 hours. Full strength develops as moisture dissipates.
