Megaprene 40GG is a high-performance, gun-grade polyurethane sealant that cures by atmospheric moisture to form a tough, elastic, and waterproof joint. Designed for structural movement joints, metal cladding, precast panels, and vehicular and marine manufacturing, it combines flexibility (±25%) with chemical and UV resistance, making it ideal for Australia’s extreme climates. Fully compliant with AS/NZS 4020, it is safe for potable water applications.
Primer Information: Most surfaces do not require priming. For high-stress or submerged joints, use Adheseal 50A for non-porous substrates (e.g., aluminium, powder coat) and Everflex Supaprime for porous surfaces (e.g., concrete, brick). Always perform an adhesion test.
Cure Time: Skins in 60 minutes and cures at 3mm per 24 hours at 25°C and 50% RH. Allow for atmospheric humidity. Avoid enclosed or damp environments that hinder curing.
Coverage Rate: A 600ml sausage yields approx. 6 linear metres at 10x10mm joint size. Coverage varies based on bead profile and application method.
Application Temperature Range: 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F). Suitable for both southern cold winters and tropical north conditions. Avoid high surface moisture during application.
Chemical Properties: Made of moisture-curing polyurethane, it resists water, detergent solutions, diluted acids and alkalis, and intermittent fuel/oil spills—ideal for construction and automotive use.
Q: Can Megaprene 40GG be used for sealing joints in water tanks?
A: Yes, Megaprene 40GG is certified to AS/NZS 4020, making it suitable for potable water contact. It is ideal for water tank seams, plumbing penetrations, and fixtures that require drinking water safety.
Q: Is priming always necessary before application?
A: Priming is not required for most surfaces. However, for critical joints or submerged conditions, use Adheseal 50A for non-porous materials and Everflex Supaprime for porous substrates like concrete and brick.
Q: Can Megaprene 40GG be painted?
A: Yes, it is paintable with most acrylic, oil, and rubber-based paints. Perform an adhesion test, especially with non-flexible coatings, which may crack due to movement of the sealant.
Q: What’s the best way to clean up after application?
A: While the product is still wet, clean tools and surfaces using Xylene. Once cured, it must be removed mechanically. Adheseal Hand Wipes are effective for skin contact.
Q: Can this product be used in hot and humid northern climates?
A: Yes, Megaprene 40GG is specifically formulated to perform in Australia’s tropical and humid zones. It resists UV, humidity, and mould growth, making it suitable for far north Queensland and NT.
