Megapoxy 69 is a translucent, non-sag gel epoxy structural adhesive designed for high-load civil engineering, marine timber joinery, and vertical stone cladding. Its engineered formula provides a massive 70MPa compressive strength and 30MPa tensile bond strength to steel, ensuring that structural links remain intact even when subjected to repeated mechanical shock and vibration.

Tested to ASTM D695 and ASTM D897 standards, this VOC-free system maintains its position during the 45-minute work time without slumping, providing a foolproof 1:1 mixing ratio for critical load-bearing repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the real-world cure time on a cool day on-site?

Megapoxy 69 has a minimum cure time of 48 hours at 15°C. In cooler conditions, like a Melbourne winter morning, you should plan for a two-day cure before the bond is subjected to significant loads. The minimum application temperature is 10°C; applying it below this will significantly extend cure time and may compromise final strength.

Can I use Megapoxy 69 to bond new steel components to old concrete?

Absolutely. This is a core application, but professional surface preparation is critical. The steel must be grit blasted or mechanically abraded to bright metal, then degreased. The concrete must be free of laitance, grease, and oil. This is best achieved by grinding or scabbling, followed by a thorough clean to ensure a sound, dry surface for maximum adhesion.

Is this product fully waterproof for marine applications?

Yes, Megapoxy 69 is ideal for structural applications in marine environments. The cured epoxy system has excellent resistance to water and chemicals. For it to be fully effective, the substrate (like timber or fibreglass) must be completely dry and properly prepared before application to ensure a permanent, waterproof bond that won't delaminate.

Applications & Benefits

Product applications, benefits, and relevant trades
Application / Use Case Key Benefit Primary Trades
Structural Metal Bonding Achieves tensile bond strength of 30MPa for permanent, load-bearing connections that are resistant to impact and vibration. Civil Engineers, Fabricators
Timber Joinery & Repair Non-sag gel fills gaps and cracks completely, creating waterproof bonds that are stronger than the timber itself. Carpenters, Joiners, Remedial Contractors
Granite & Marble Assembly Translucent gel creates discreet, high-strength bonds for premium stone fabrications and installations. Stonemasons, Furniture Manufacturers
Concrete Repair & Anchoring Bonds tenaciously to prepared concrete for high-strength crack repairs and anchoring of starter bars and fixings. Remedial Contractors, Builders

Applying Megapoxy 69: Professional Protocol

  1. Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is non-negotiable for achieving the specified bond strength. All substrates must be structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of any contaminants.

    Porous Substrates (Concrete)

Mechanically abrade by grinding or scabbling to remove laitance and expose a clean surface. Remove all dust.

    Non-Porous Substrates (Metal)

Grit blast or grind to a bright metal finish, then immediately solvent wipe with an industrial degreaser to remove all residues.

  2. Mixing

Combine Part A and Part B in a 1:1 ratio by volume. It is essential that this ratio is measured accurately.

    Thorough Mixing Technique

Mix thoroughly with a spatula or mechanical mixer until a uniform, light yellow colour is achieved. Pay close attention to scraping the sides and bottom of the mixing container to ensure all material is fully combined. Poor mixing will result in a weak bond and may prevent the product from curing correctly.

Work Time: You have approximately 45 minutes to apply the mixed product at 25°C. This time will be shorter at higher temperatures.
  3. Application & Curing

Apply the mixed gel to the prepared surfaces using a trowel or spatula. For bonding applications, press the surfaces firmly together to ensure full contact. For repairs, work the material into the void to eliminate air pockets.

Pro Tip: For structural bonding, clamp components securely to prevent movement during the initial cure. Remove any excess adhesive before it begins to set for a cleaner finish.
Curing: Allow to cure for a minimum of 24 hours at 25°C before subjecting the bond to any load. Full chemical resistance and ultimate strength is typically achieved after 7 days.

Limitations & Safety

Product Limitations

!
Minimum Temperature: Do not apply Megapoxy 69 if the substrate or ambient temperature is below 10°C, as this will inhibit proper curing.
!
Coated Surfaces: Do not bond directly to painted, galvanised, or coated surfaces. These coatings must be completely removed to the bare substrate for a structural bond.
!
Mixing Ratio: The 1:1 mix ratio is critical. Inaccurate measurement or poor mixing will lead to significantly lower physical properties and potential cure failure.

Safety & Handling Requirements

🛡️
Personal Protective Equipment

Always wear safety glasses with side shields and impervious gloves (nitrile rubber recommended). Wear protective clothing to prevent skin contact. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

💨
Ventilation Requirements

Use in a well-ventilated area. Natural ventilation should be adequate under normal use conditions. Avoid breathing vapours.

Emergency First Aid
Eyes:
If in eyes, rinse cautiously with running water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing for at least 15 minutes. Immediately call a Poisons Centre or doctor. Part B can cause serious eye damage.
Skin:
If on skin, immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash with plenty of soap and running water. If skin irritation or rash occurs, get medical advice.
Inhaled:
Remove victim from exposure to fresh air. Keep at rest in a comfortable position. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
Swallowed:
Rinse mouth with water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water to drink. Seek medical advice immediately.

For all medical advice, contact a Doctor or the Poisons Information Centre (Australia: 13 11 26).

Substrate Preparation Guide

Concrete & Masonry

Surfaces must be completely free from grease, oil, and surface laitance. Degrease with a heavy-duty industrial cleaner. The surface laitance must then be removed via mechanical abrasion such as scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding. If this is not possible, acid etching may be performed. Allow the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before application.

No primer typically required

Adhesion is achieved through correct surface preparation. Ensure the concrete is structurally sound and surface dry for a tenacious bond.

Metal Surfaces (Steel, Aluminium)

For maximum bond strength, metal surfaces should be grit blasted to an AS CK 9.4-1964 Class 3 finish. If grit blasting is not practical, mechanically abrade the surface to a clean, bright finish using grinders or sanders. Immediately after abrasion, degrease the surface by flooding with an industrial grade solvent. Wire brushing is not a substitute and will only provide minimal adhesion.

No primer typically required

A direct bond to a clean, abraded, and degreased metal surface provides the highest performance.

Timber

Timber should be clean, dry, and free from dust, oils, or any surface contaminants. For structural joinery, ensure timber is sound and free from rot. Abrading the surface with a coarse-grit sandpaper can improve mechanical keying, especially on dense hardwoods. Remove all sanding dust before application.

No primer typically required

Megapoxy 69 is designed to bond directly to prepared timber surfaces. Ensure the timber is below its fibre saturation point for best results.
