Everflex JS is a high-performance hybrid acrylic joint sealant engineered for the extreme thermal cycling of commercial facades and precast concrete panels. Featuring a low modulus formula with ±50% movement capability, it accommodates double the movement of standard sealants while maintaining a non-staining, UV-stable bond to timber, metal, and masonry.

To prevent adhesive failure, ensure a 2:1 width-to-depth ratio (6mm minimum to 10mm maximum depth) using Adhefoam backer rod, and avoid application if rain is forecast within 90 minutes to prevent washout. Tested to ASTM C-732 and TT-S-00230C standards, it provides professional-grade durability with an isocyanate-free, water-cleanup workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to prime the substrate before applying Everflex JS?

Priming is not normally required for most common building materials like timber, brickwork, concrete, and metal. Everflex JS has been formulated for superior adhesion. However, for any surfaces you're unsure about, it's always best practice to conduct a small adhesion test first.

What is the correct joint depth for Everflex JS?

The recommended sealant depth is a minimum of 6mm and a maximum of 10mm, regardless of the joint width. For optimal performance, always maintain a joint width-to-depth ratio of 2:1. Use Adhefoam backer rod or a bond breaker tape to control the depth and prevent three-sided adhesion.

Can I apply Everflex JS if it looks like it might rain?

No. Everflex JS is a water-based sealant during its curing phase. You should not apply it if rain is evident within 90 minutes of application. Rain can cause washouts before the sealant has had sufficient time to form a protective skin, which will compromise the joint integrity.

Applications & Benefits

Product applications, benefits, and relevant trades
Application / Use Case Key Benefit Primary Trades
Precast & Tilt-Up Panel Joints +/-50% movement capability accommodates high levels of thermal expansion and contraction without failure. Facade Installers, Concreters, Builders
Perimeter Sealing of Windows & Doors Superior primerless adhesion to multiple substrates (timber, metal, masonry) creates a durable, weatherproof seal. Window Installers, Carpenters, Builders
Blockwork & Brickwork Control Joints Excellent elasticity and durability prevent cracking and water ingress in masonry movement joints. Bricklayers, Builders, Remedial Contractors
Sealing Joints in Metalwork & Timber Non-staining formula with strong adhesion is ideal for architectural finishes where appearance is critical. Carpenters, Fabricators, Builders

Applying Everflex JS: Professional Protocol

  1. Joint Preparation

A successful joint starts with proper preparation. All surfaces must be completely clean, sound, dry, and free from contaminants like dust, grease, laitance, or loose material that could prevent a solid bond.

Pro Tip: For deep joints, installing the correct backer rod is critical. Use Adhefoam open cell backer rod, or if using closed cell, be careful not to puncture its skin, as this can cause gas bubbles in the curing sealant.
  2. Sealant Application & Tooling

Ensure backer rod or bond breaker tape is installed to achieve the correct sealant depth (6mm to 10mm). Apply Everflex JS with steady pressure, ensuring the sealant fills the joint and makes full contact with the sides.

    Tooling Technique

Tool the sealant off immediately after application using a spatula. Push the sealant into the joint to ensure good wet-out and a solid contact area. Aim for a flat or slightly convex finish.

Timing: Do not apply if rain is forecast within 90 minutes. The water-based formula needs this time to form a protective skin.
Pro Tip: Where rain could soak into an exposed backer rod from above (e.g., in a vertical joint), the top of the joint must be capped or protected until the sealant has cured.

Limitations & Safety

Product Limitations

!
Rain Affects Cure: Do not apply if rain is evident within 90 minutes. As a water-based product, rain can cause washouts before a sufficient skin has formed.
!
Protect Backer Rod: Ensure that water cannot soak into the backer rod before the sealant has cured, as this can compromise the joint. The top of vertical joints should be capped.
!
Three-Sided Adhesion: Must not adhere to the back of the joint. Always use the correct size Adhefoam backer rod or a bond breaker tape to prevent three-sided adhesion, which restricts movement and causes sealant failure.

Safety & Handling Requirements

🛡️
Personal Protective Equipment

Wear protective gloves (e.g., Nitrile Rubber) and safety glasses. Avoid direct skin and eye contact. Although not classified as hazardous, the product can cause skin and eye irritation.

🌬️
Ventilation Requirements

Use in well-ventilated areas. Inhalation of vapours may cause respiratory irritation. If ventilation is inadequate, appropriate respiratory protection should be worn.

Emergency First Aid
Eyes:
Flush the affected eye with an eye wash or clean water for at least 20 minutes. Seek medical advice after flushing.
Skin:
Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation develops or persists, get medical attention.
Inhaled:
Remove person to fresh air. If respiratory symptoms persist, call a physician.
Swallowed:
Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water. Seek medical attention if symptoms develop.

Substrate & Preparation Guide

Concrete, Brickwork & Blockwork

Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry, and free from any dirt, grease, laitance, or loose particles. Use a wire brush or grinder to remove any contaminants that could hinder adhesion. Blow out joints with oil-free compressed air.

No primer normally required

For standard, sound masonry and concrete, priming is not required. For suspect or friable surfaces, an adhesion test is recommended.

Window & Door Frames (Timber, Metal, Aluminium)

All surfaces must be clean, dry and sound. For painted timber, ensure paint is well-adhered. For metals, remove any oxidation or corrosion and ensure the surface is free of oils or protective films.

No primer normally required

Everflex JS provides excellent primerless adhesion to most common frame materials. Ensure surfaces are thoroughly cleaned for best results.

Plastics (Acrylic, Polycarbonate)

Ensure plastic surfaces are clean, dry, and free from any grease or release agents. A light solvent wipe with a compatible cleaner may be required. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

No primer normally required

Adhesion to acrylic and polycarbonate is excellent, but due to the wide variety of plastic compositions, an adhesion test is always best practice.
