Everbond 2P Crosslinker

Everbond 2P Crosslinker is an additive for Everbond Brush Contact Adhesive that boosts bond strength and heat resistance. Mix it in and you get a contact adhesive that holds up where standard stuff lets go, especially on wood substrates in caravan and joinery work. Not a standalone product. It only works as an additive, so don't try using it on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What does Everbond 2P Crosslinker do for the adhesive?

The crosslinker significantly increases the strength, heat resistance, and water resistance of Everbond 2P Contact Adhesive. This prevents bond failure in demanding applications, especially those exposed to heat above 120°C.

What is the correct mixing ratio for Everbond 2P Crosslinker?

Mix Everbond 2P (Part A) with 3-5% of Everbond 2P (Part B) Crosslinker. Only mix enough material that can be used within a 4-hour pot life to ensure optimal performance.

Can I use Everbond 2P Crosslinker in cold or humid conditions?

Avoid applying the adhesive system in temperatures below 18°C or in high humidity. These conditions can cause moisture condensation, leading to faulty bonds and reduced performance.

What safety precautions are necessary when using Everbond 2P Part B?

Everbond 2P Part B is a hazardous chemical and a dangerous good. Wear gloves, an apron, chemical goggles, and an organic vapour/particulate respirator. Ensure good ventilation, as it is flammable and can cause respiratory or skin sensitisation.

Applications and benefits

Where Everbond 2P Crosslinker is used, what it delivers, and who uses it
Application Key benefit Primary trades
Bonding rubber components Forms a tough, flexible bond with increased heat and water resistance, crucial for durable assemblies. Rubber fabricators, automotive technicians
High-stress assemblies requiring enhanced durability Achieves superior bond strength and resilience, preventing premature failure in critical connections. Manufacturing, general construction
Installations exposed to high temperatures Maintains bond integrity above 120°C (tested to AS 1937.4 1977), preventing thermal creep or adhesive breakdown. HVAC installers, industrial maintenance, automotive
Joints requiring water resistance Creates a water-resistant bond, enhancing the longevity of assemblies in damp or exposed environments. Marine, pool & spa builders, general construction

Applying Everbond 2P Crosslinker: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure the adhesive is compatible and the substrate is clean and dry.
  2. Mixing: Add 3–10% of Everbond 2P Crosslinker by volume to the adhesive, depending on type. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Pot Life: Apply adhesive immediately. Pot life is several hours to one working day. Discard once viscosity rises.
  4. Application: Apply adhesive using standard techniques. Press substrates together while adhesive is tacky.
Trade-Specific Scenario Guides:
For Industrial Fabricators: High-Temperature Bonding

The Engineering Challenge: Maintaining bond integrity in elevated temperatures and harsh chemical environments.

The System-Based Solution with Everbond 2P Crosslinker: Enhances thermal resistance of adhesive bonds, reducing delamination risks in ovens, engines, or insulation installs.

Best Practice Note: Mix only what’s needed for the shift. Discard if thickening occurs, and do not attempt to re-thin.

Product limitations

  • Application temperature: Do not apply when temperatures are below 18°C. Cold conditions and high humidity can cause condensation, leading to faulty bonds.
  • Pot life: Mixed adhesive must be used within 4 hours. Material beyond this time will lose performance.
  • Thinning: Do not use Contact Adhesive Cleaner for thinning Everbond 2P Part A. Only use Everbond Contact Thinners if necessary for specific purposes.
  • Non-porous surfaces: Ensure adhesive films are completely dry before combining non-porous surfaces. Trapped solvent will compromise bond strength and heat resistance.

Safety and handling

Signal Word: Danger

Everbond 2P Part B Crosslinker is a Schedule 6 Poison and a Class 3 Flammable Liquid. Handle with extreme care.

Personal protective equipment

Wear gloves (nitrile rubber recommended), an apron, chemical goggles, and an organic vapour/particulate respirator (AS/NZS 1715/1716). Wash hands thoroughly before eating, drinking, or smoking. Wash contaminated clothing and protective equipment before reuse.

Ventilation

Use only in well-ventilated areas, preferably with local exhaust ventilation, to maintain air concentrations below exposure standards and prevent inhalation of vapours or mists.

First aid

  • General: If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Australia 131 126).
  • Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. Keep at rest in a comfortable breathing position. If symptoms persist or are severe, seek medical attention. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek immediate medical attention.
  • Skin Contact: Wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation or symptoms occur, avoid further exposure.
  • Eye Contact: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, lifting upper and lower eyelids. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing for at least 20 minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  • Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give small quantities of water to a conscious person. Seek immediate medical attention.

Storage and disposal

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, out of direct sunlight. Keep away from foodstuffs, incompatible materials, heat, and ignition sources. Keep containers closed and standing upright. Dispose of material and containers in accordance with local regulations.

Substrate guide

Proper surface preparation is crucial for achieving the full performance of the Everbond 2P Contact Adhesive system with the Crosslinker. These guidelines apply to the overall adhesive application.

All substrates

Surface prep: All surfaces must be clean and dry. Remove any grease, oil, dust, or other contaminants. This ensures direct adhesion and prevents bond compromise.

Primer: Not required. The adhesive system is designed for direct application to prepared surfaces.

Metals

Surface prep: For maximum bond strength, metals should be thoroughly wiped clean with a suitable solvent. This removes surface residues that can inhibit adhesion.

Primer: Not required. Ensure the solvent fully evaporates before adhesive application.

Porous surfaces

Surface prep: Clean and dry as per general instructions. Consider the porosity of the material when applying the adhesive.

Primer: Not required. A heavier, even coat of adhesive may be necessary to ensure proper saturation and bond with porous materials.

Non-porous surfaces

Surface prep: Clean and dry as per general instructions. Critical that the adhesive films are completely dry before combining surfaces.

Primer: Not required. Trapped solvent between non-porous surfaces will affect bond strength and heat resistance.
