For concrete, brick, mortar, and natural stone structures vulnerable to water ingress, dampness, and surface dusting, EP Waterproofing System permanently seals and hardens masonry from the inside. Instead of forming a temporary surface film that can peel or wear away, this translucent, inorganic liquid penetrates deep into the substrate, initiating a progressive chemical reaction that solidifies the component parts of the masonry into a single, dense mass.

How it works

EP Waterproofing System uses the existing free lime and alkali within the masonry to drive its curing process. By reacting internally, it blocks the gel pore system to prevent water, oxygen, and contaminants like chlorides from migrating through the substrate. This internal chemical barrier stops the upward migration of ground moisture and vapour emission through concrete slabs, while maintaining the natural passivation layer on embedded reinforcing steel to inhibit corrosion.

This reaction also neutralises free lime and alkali, eliminating the primary cause of paint saponification. By stopping these highly alkaline salts from leaching into surface coatings, it prevents the blistering, peeling, and cracking of subsequent paint systems, extending their service life on masonry surfaces. It does not contain solvents or oils, does not aerate, and will not damage adjacent glass, tile, or aluminium during application.

Numbers that matter

  • 60 psi negative hydrostatic pressure: Tested to withstand high back-pressure without visible failure (GHD standard test method), preventing water seepage in underground structures, basements, and tunnels.
  • 5 to 7 square metres per litre: Standard coverage rate to achieve deep substrate saturation on typical masonry surfaces (reduces to 4 to 5 square metres per litre on plastering and high-absorption Shotcrete).
  • 12 to 14 hours reaction time: The initial internal chemical window required for the formulation to bind with the masonry before the surface dries, achieving a complete cure in 6 to 7 days.
  • 1.0% maximum density and absorption (AS 1012.21): Limits water absorption to under 1.0% after 48 hours (and under 2.0% after 50 days) to prevent freeze-thaw damage, crumbling, and efflorescence.

Where to use it

EP Waterproofing System is suitable for interior, exterior, above-grade, and below-grade applications across industrial, commercial, and residential projects, including:

  • Concrete roofs, R.C. gutters, and bridge decks
  • Basements, subways, tunnels, and reservoirs
  • Warehouses, factory floors, and roads to prevent dusting, rutting, and surface crumbling
  • Brickwork, blockwork, mortar, plaster, render, terrazzo, and Shotcrete
  • Natural stone surfaces requiring protection from weathering and salt fretting
  • New-to-old concrete joints, where it regulates moisture absorption to assist concrete screed repairs to cure evenly without shrinkage cracking

Limitations

  • Do not apply to any surface previously treated with silicone, siloxane, or solvent-based materials, as these block the penetration path.
  • If the liquid is not being absorbed by the substrate during test application, do not apply.
  • The system will not seal or plug sizeable cracks or physical holes in the masonry.
  • Do not apply to quick-stage block walls with oversized surface pores too large to fill.
  • Apply only when air and surface temperatures are above 7 degrees Celsius. Ground and air temperatures must remain above 5 degrees Celsius for 24 hours post-application.
  • Do not store unmixed material in direct sunlight. Store between 5 and 38 degrees Celsius.

Application

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dirt, oil, grease, rust, mildew, and loose paint. Clean heavily soiled areas first with EP Cleaning Products, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry completely.

Apply the product exactly as it comes from the container; do not dilute or mix with other chemicals. Apply using a low-pressure sprayer (such as a backpack sprayer) operated at no more than 20 Psi to ensure even distribution and prevent overspray. Brush, roller, mop, or flushing methods may be used where spraying is not practical, provided the surface is completely saturated. Once the surface dries, the area can be opened to reasonable foot traffic. Allow several days for complete chemical penetration and curing before applying any paints or surface floor coverings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is E P Waterproofing System™ a surface sealer or coating?

It is not a film-forming coating. The treatment penetrates the substrate and reacts within the gel pore system, densifying the matrix to waterproof from within, so it cannot peel or wear away like a surface film.

When can I paint after treatment?

Once the substrate is dry after application you may paint; on plastered substrates allow 12–24 hours penetration and drying before finishing. Full cure progresses over several days.

Can I use it on shotcrete?

Yes. Shotcrete’s higher cement content increases reaction potential. Expect slightly higher uptake (lower m²/L) due to absorption; spray to saturation and allow to dry.

Any conditions where it shouldn’t be used?

Do not apply over substrates previously treated with silicone, siloxane or solvent-based repellents, or where the product won’t absorb. For porous concrete block walls, specify EP™ Concrete Block Sealer.

Applying E P Waterproofing System™: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. Surface Preparation

Clean substrates to remove dust, oils and contamination; rinse and allow to dry. Confirm no prior silicone/siloxane/solvent-based treatments.

    Cleaning

Use EP™ Cleaning Products as needed, rinse thoroughly and ensure the surface is dry before treatment.

    Environmental Checks

    Apply when air/surface >10 °C; maintain >8 °C for 24 h. Keep materials ideally 18–35 °C.

Timing: Plan application early in the day to avoid condensation and to maintain temperature thresholds.
Pro Tip: A simple water drop test can indicate prior repellents; if water beads strongly, reassess suitability.
  2. Application

Apply by low-pressure spray (back-pack or equivalent) at ~20 psi to saturate the surface uniformly.

    Coverage

Typical rate ~5–7 m²/L on dense substrates; shotcrete may require higher uptake due to absorption.

    Finishes/Traffic

Allow to dry before foot traffic or finishing. On plaster, allow 12–24 h penetration before coating.

Timing: Initial reaction 12–14 h; full cure typically 6–7 days.
Pro Tip: Apply from the highest point and work down to ensure even penetration and prevent runs on verticals.
