When the job demands permanent masonry protection that works from within, the EP Waterproofing System delivers. It transforms porous concrete, brick, and stone into a dense, waterproof mass without altering the surface appearance. This ensures lasting resistance to water, chemicals, and deterioration, securing the substrate's integrity from the core.

Why this product exists

This product was engineered to fundamentally change masonry structures. Unlike surface films that degrade or peel, it employs an advanced inorganic formulation to chemically react with the masonry. This reaction solidifies the component parts into a dense, waterproof mass. It offers permanent protection against water ingress, chemical attack, and physical deterioration, preserving the structure from its core.

The numbers that matter

  • Coverage: Achieve 5-7 square metres per litre on general masonry, with plaster applications typically consuming 1 litre per 4-5 square metres. This guides project planning and material estimates for effective saturation.
  • pH: A neutral pH of 6.0 ensures the liquid is non-corrosive during application. This reduces handling risks and makes it safe for a wide range of masonry substrates without causing etching or discolouration.
  • Negative Hydrostatic Pressure Resistance: Independently tested to withstand 60 psi of negative hydrostatic pressure. This performance is critical for below-grade applications like basements and retaining walls, where water pressure pushes inwards.
  • Full Cure: Expect the initial chemical reaction within 12-14 hours, with full chemical cure achieved in 4-7 days. This timeline is vital for scheduling follow-on trades or subsequent coatings, ensuring the masonry is fully solidified and waterproofed.

What it's like to use

The EP Waterproofing System arrives ready to use, requiring no mixing. Low-pressure spray application (maximum 20 Psi) is the preferred method for optimal coverage and deep penetration. Before application, ensure the masonry surface is clean and dry, free from dirt, dust, oil, and loose material. The product penetrates quickly, and treated areas can typically withstand reasonable foot traffic shortly after application. It will not harm adjacent glass, tiles, or aluminium surfaces.

Where this product excels

  • Concrete slabs under membranes or tiles: Provides a permanent, penetrative seal that becomes an integral part of the concrete. This strengthens the substrate before additional waterproofing layers.
  • Basements and retaining walls (negative-side): Offers internal densification to resist water ingress, effectively managing hydrostatic pressure from the outside.
  • New toppings over old slabs: Controls absorption into the existing concrete. This improves the curing of new concrete and enhances bond strength for subsequent layers.
  • Rendered and painted façades: Neutralises lime and alkali within the masonry, preventing saponification. This extends the lifespan of applied paints and coatings by preventing premature peeling or blistering.

How it fits in a real system

In concrete repair and surface treatment systems, the EP Waterproofing System consistently functions as the initial step. It prepares the substrate by solidifying and waterproofing the masonry from within, creating a stable, chemically resistant base for subsequent membranes, grouts, or other finishes. This foundational treatment ensures the long-term integrity of the entire system.

Choose this when

  • When you need permanent, invisible waterproofing for concrete, brick, block, or other masonry, especially where traditional surface coatings are unsuitable or undesirable.
  • When preparing concrete slabs for tiling or membrane application as a penetrative sealer to enhance durability and prevent water absorption.
  • When addressing issues like efflorescence, carbonation, or corrosion of embedded steel by preventing water and contaminants from entering the masonry matrix.
  • When extending the life of paint or coatings on masonry facades by neutralising alkalis and preventing saponification.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Surfaces previously coated with silicone, siloxane, or solvent-based materials, as these will prevent effective penetration and chemical reaction.
  • Not for: Plugging holes or sizeable cracks; this is a penetrative treatment for porous substrates, not a void filler or crack repair product.
  • Not for: Application if the product is visibly not being absorbed by the substrate. This indicates a non-porous or previously sealed surface where the product cannot perform its intended function.
  • Not for: Certain quick-stage block walls with excessively large holes or pores, which may prevent the system from successfully filling the matrix (consult the manufacturer for these specific cases).

Independent testing confirms the EP Waterproofing System's performance. ASTM C-672 demonstrates 'No Chloride Penetration at any depth', a critical factor for protecting embedded steel reinforcement from corrosion. GHD Perth testing confirmed its ability to withstand '60 psi negative hydrostatic pressure' without visible failure, underscoring its reliability for demanding below-grade applications. Additionally, it meets Australian Standard AS 1012.21 for density and absorption, ensuring lasting protection and structural integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is E P Waterproofing System™ a surface sealer or coating?

It is not a film-forming coating. The treatment penetrates the substrate and reacts within the gel pore system, densifying the matrix to waterproof from within, so it cannot peel or wear away like a surface film.

When can I paint after treatment?

Once the substrate is dry after application you may paint; on plastered substrates allow 12–24 hours penetration and drying before finishing. Full cure progresses over several days.

Can I use it on shotcrete?

Yes. Shotcrete’s higher cement content increases reaction potential. Expect slightly higher uptake (lower m²/L) due to absorption; spray to saturation and allow to dry.

Any conditions where it shouldn’t be used?

Do not apply over substrates previously treated with silicone, siloxane or solvent-based repellents, or where the product won’t absorb. For porous concrete block walls, specify EP™ Concrete Block Sealer.

Applying E P Waterproofing System™: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. Surface Preparation

Clean substrates to remove dust, oils and contamination; rinse and allow to dry. Confirm no prior silicone/siloxane/solvent-based treatments.

    Cleaning

Use EP™ Cleaning Products as needed, rinse thoroughly and ensure the surface is dry before treatment.

    Environmental Checks

    Apply when air/surface >10 °C; maintain >8 °C for 24 h. Keep materials ideally 18–35 °C.

Timing: Plan application early in the day to avoid condensation and to maintain temperature thresholds.
Pro Tip: A simple water drop test can indicate prior repellents; if water beads strongly, reassess suitability.
  2. Application

Apply by low-pressure spray (back-pack or equivalent) at ~20 psi to saturate the surface uniformly.

    Coverage

Typical rate ~5–7 m²/L on dense substrates; shotcrete may require higher uptake due to absorption.

    Finishes/Traffic

Allow to dry before foot traffic or finishing. On plaster, allow 12–24 h penetration before coating.

Timing: Initial reaction 12–14 h; full cure typically 6–7 days.
Pro Tip: Apply from the highest point and work down to ensure even penetration and prevent runs on verticals.

Limitations & Safety

Product Limitations

!
Do not apply over substrates previously treated with silicone, siloxane or solvent-based repellents; if the product will not absorb, do not apply.
