Use Elastoproof B50 Joint Band System for: Bond breaking at wall/floor junctions, substrate abutments, control joints, movement & expansion joints, and corners in wet-area waterproofing.

Elastoproof B50 Joint Band System: A Technical Overview

Built around a high-strength NBR rubber core with polyester-fleece edging, the B50 bridges and decouples membrane stress at movement zones. The 20 mm central stretch zone accommodates multi-directional movement with up to 100% elastic recovery. Fleece edges are embedded into a fresh, wet liquid membrane to achieve intimate contact, eliminating air pockets and ensuring durable, watertight detailing at the most failure-prone points of a waterproofing system.

Core Features & Specifications

  • Approved bond breaker for domestic wet areas to AS 3740.
  • Movement parameters: max starting joint width 20 mm; movement capacity up to 50% of starting width.
  • Temperature resistance −20 °C to 90 °C for broad climate resilience.
  • Water pressure resistance 3 bar; µ (moisture vapour resistance) = 8.4; equivalent air thickness sd = 5.0.
  • Chemically resistant (acids/alkalis/chlorinated/saline water) for demanding environments.
  • Roll sizes: 120 mm × 10 m and 120 mm × 50 m; prefabricated internal (90°) & external (270°) corners available.

The Elastoproof B50 Advantage

  • Replaces traditional sealant bond breakers and tapes—faster, cleaner detailing.
  • Minimises stress transfer into the membrane at joints and corners, reducing call-backs.
  • Factory corners help maintain continuity through complex intersections.
  • Consistent, repeatable results across commercial, industrial, and residential sites.

Proactive Troubleshooting

Scenario: Bedding into a skinned or dry membrane

Potential Outcome: Poor wet-out and local adhesion loss leading to leaks.

Adheseal Best Practice: Always embed B50 into a fresh, wet membrane layer and brush/roll to expel air from fleece edges.

Scenario: Exceeding movement capacity

Potential Outcome: Central zone fatigue and premature failure.

Adheseal Best Practice: Keep starting joint width ≤ 20 mm and design for ≤ 50% movement of that width.

Applications in Practice: Trade Scenarios

For Waterproofers (Specifier/Engineer): Wet-area junctions to AS 3740

The Professional's Challenge

Achieve compliant detailing at wall/floor junctions where movement concentrates and membranes typically fail.

The Adheseal Solution: Engineered Certainty in Practice

B50’s fleece edges embed into wet membrane for uniform adhesion, while the central Flexible Zone decouples movement—maintaining seal integrity at these critical points.

Best Practice Note

Overlap band lengths by ≥ 50 mm and use factory corners at 90°/270° intersections to maintain continuity.

For Builders (Business Owner/Operator): Control & expansion joints

The Professional's Challenge

Movement at slab joints can telegraph through membranes, causing cracks or leaks.

The Adheseal Solution: Engineered Certainty in Practice

By bridging the joint and isolating the membrane from direct substrate movement, B50 preserves the waterproofing layer and reduces remediation risk.

Best Practice Note

Confirm joint widths and expected movement; select a suitably elastic membrane over the band to match site conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What joint movement can B50 accommodate?

B50 is designed for a maximum starting joint width of 20 mm and accommodates up to 50% movement of that width, with up to 100% elastic recovery in the central zone.

Do I embed the band into wet or dry membrane?

Always embed the fleece edges into a fresh, wet liquid membrane to ensure complete wet-out and adhesion. Apply a second coat to fully encapsulate the band.

Can I use prefabricated corners?

Yes. Prefabricated internal (90°) and external (270°) corners are available and recommended to maintain continuity through junctions and reduce on-site fabrication errors.

Is long-term UV exposure acceptable?

No. B50 is not intended as an exposed, UV-resistant joint seal. It should be encapsulated within the waterproofing system.

What temperature range can B50 handle in service?

The specified temperature resistance is −20 °C to 90 °C, suitable for a wide range of Australian conditions.

Applying Elastoproof B50 Joint Band System: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. Surface Preparation

Ensure substrates are clean, dry, sound and smooth; remove contaminants; repair defects; comply with relevant standards for wet areas.

    Mechanical Conditioning

Grind/abrade to remove weak layers and provide a clean surface; vacuum dust before priming.

    Moisture & Temperature

Apply only when surfaces are dry and between 5 °C and 30 °C (surface temperature).

Timing: Prime and apply membrane immediately before embedding the band.
Pro Tip: Confirm joint width ≤ 20 mm to remain within the movement envelope.
  2. Measure, Cut & Dry Fit

Pre-cut lengths to suit each run and corner; allow for ≥ 50 mm overlaps at joins; use factory corners where possible.

    Straight Runs

Cut slightly long for final trim; check alignment over the joint centreline.

    Custom Corners

If not using factory corners, create a foldable corner by a vertical incision on a short length, then form and bed into wet membrane.

Timing: Prepare lengths before opening/rolling membrane to avoid skinning.
Pro Tip: Keep pre-cut pieces clean and dust-free for optimal adhesion.
  3. Embed into Wet Membrane

Apply the first coat of liquid membrane in a ~150 mm band centred over the joint. Embed B50 into the fresh membrane and press firmly.

    Brush-in

Use a firm brush to wet-out fleece edges and remove trapped air.

    Roll-in

Light rolling ensures intimate contact without stressing the central flexible zone.

Timing: Embed while the membrane is wet; do not allow skinning.
Pro Tip: Maintain central alignment of the flexible zone over the joint line.
  4. Overlap, Cornering & Encapsulation

Overlap band lengths by ≥ 50 mm. Use prefabricated internal/external corners where possible. Apply a second coat to fully encapsulate.

    Second Coat

Brush/roll to seal the fleece completely and achieve the membrane’s specified film build.

    Cure & Protect

Observe the membrane manufacturer’s recoat and cure times; protect from traffic until cured.

Timing: Follow the membrane’s schedule for recoats and service readiness.
Pro Tip: Document joints and overlaps for QA and warranty records.
