Ensure all substrates are structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, coatings, and contaminants. Use a two-cloth solvent wipe method with isopropyl alcohol (IPA), acetone, or Dow R40 Cleaner.
Apply masking tape along joint edges for clean lines. Use backer rod (PE or PU foam) to control joint depth and prevent 3-sided adhesion. Recommended joint width-to-depth ratio is 2:1 for optimal movement capability.
Apply DOWSIL™ 795 using a caulking gun at a steady rate. Hold nozzle at a 45° angle and ensure the bead is forced into contact with both sides of the joint. Avoid air entrapment. Tool within 10–20 minutes to smooth surface and ensure full bond.
Immediately remove masking tape after tooling. Clean excess sealant with solvent (before skinning) and wipe tools with cloth. Cured sealant must be removed mechanically.
