Description  

ARDEX X 17 is a flexible, polymer-fortified, non-slump wall and floor tile adhesive for residential and light commercial tiling. Its mastic-style workability and extended open time make it especially useful for large-format and heavy tiles that need reliable grab on walls without sacrificing working time.

Tile and substrate compatibility

Suitable tile types include porcelain, fully vitrified and ceramic tiles, mosaics and non-moisture-sensitive natural stone. Typical substrates include concrete, renders and screeds, fibre-cement sheet, plasterboard on walls, compressed fibre-cement sheet on floors, Ceramic Tile Underlay and ARDEX liquid-applied undertile waterproofing membranes. Existing ceramic tiles may be suitable in internal dry areas when correctly prepared.

Coverage

ARDEX lists approximate coverage of 10m² per 20kg on walls and 6m² per 20kg on floors. Actual coverage depends on substrate flatness, tile profile and trowel size.

Important limitations

ARDEX X 17 is not the ARDEX choice for swimming pools or continuously immersed applications. Moisture-sensitive stone also requires a dedicated stone-installation system. Follow the current ARDEX technical data sheet and AS 3958 for substrate preparation, adhesive coverage and installation requirements.

No. Continuous immersion applications are excluded.

No. Bare timber and high-movement substrates are excluded.

Uses & Benefits  
Polymer-fortified cement tile adhesive for residential and light-commercial walls and floors. S1 flexibility accommodates movement in suitable sheet substrates and waterproofed systems. Suitable for porcelain, ceramic, mosaics, fully vitrified tile and moisture-stable natural stone. Open time is about 30 minutes and adjustment time about 20 minutes at 23°C. Bed thickness is 3mm to 10mm.
How To Apply  
Use on clean, dry and properly prepared substrates. Prime porous surfaces and mechanically key dense or smooth substrates where required by ARDEX. Mix according to the product instructions and use within the approximately 3-hour pot life. Spread with the correct notched trowel and place tiles within the approximately 30-minute open time. Press and slide tiles across the trowel ridges for full contact. Back-butter large or deeply profiled tiles as required. Keep the adhesive bed between 3mm and 10mm.
Limitations and Safety Info  
Do not use for continuous immersion such as swimming pools or water tanks. Do not use over metal, bare timber or substrates subject to high shrinkage or structural movement. Do not use for moisture-sensitive natural stone. Do not use on floors where deflection exceeds joist span divided by 500. Do not apply below 10°C.
