Adheseal PU50 is a high-modulus polyurethane adhesive and sealant designed for structural bonding and seam sealing in demanding marine, transport, and commercial infrastructure environments.

It features an exceptionally high Shore A hardness of 55 to provide anti-pick resistance in high-security facilities like prisons and schools, while maintaining 700% elongation and +/- 25% movement capability to absorb constant mechanical vibration.

This non-corrosive, fast-curing formula achieves excellent green strength for immediate hold and is certified to meet Green Star low VOC criteria, ensuring reliability for below-waterline marine applications and occupied public buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes PU50 different from PU15 or PU25?

PU50FC is a high modulus polyurethane with much higher strength and hardness, making it suitable for structural bonding and anti-pick applications.

Is PU50 suitable for anti-pick applications?

Yes. With a Shore A hardness around 55, PU50FC is specifically suited for anti-pick sealing in schools, prisons, and public buildings.

Can PU50 be used below the waterline?

Yes. Once fully cured, PU50FC is suitable for below-waterline applications in marine and similar environments.

Applications & Benefits

Product applications, benefits, and relevant trades
Application / Use Case Key Benefit Primary Trades
Anti-Pick sealant for public & secure buildings High Shore A 50 hardness prevents tampering, vandalism, and removal of the sealant. Facility Maintenance, Correctional Services, Builders
Structural bonding of vehicle & marine panels High tensile strength creates a durable, flexible bond that withstands constant vibration and stress. Truck Body Builders, Marine Manufacturers, Engineers
High-traffic pavement & floor joints Exceptional tear and abrasion resistance ensures longevity in demanding environments like car parks and driveways. Civil Contractors, Concreters, Flooring Installers
Bonding XPS foam core & sandwich panels Powerful adhesion and flexibility provides a structural bond for fabricating composite panels and facades. Fabricators, Façade Installers
Seam sealing and bonding of bolted lap joints Creates a tough, waterproof, and permanently elastic seal that reinforces mechanical fastenings. Engineers, Fabricators, Sheet Metal Workers

Applying Adheseal PU-50FC: Professional Protocol

  1. Surface Preparation

A high-strength bond is only as good as the surface it's applied to. Meticulous preparation is non-negotiable for performance.

    Cleaning & Priming

All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, and completely free of contaminants. Follow the substrate-specific priming guide for all applications to ensure a permanent, structural-grade bond.

    Backing Rod & Joint Design

For sealant applications, install an open-cell foam backing rod to control sealant depth to the optimal 2:1 width-to-depth ratio and prevent three-sided adhesion, which restricts flexibility.

Pro Tip: Use high-quality masking tape to ensure neat, clean joint lines, especially for architectural finishes. Remove tape immediately after tooling.
  2. Application & Tooling

PU-50FC is a high-viscosity product. Use a high-quality application gun and apply steady pressure for a consistent bead.

    As a Sealant

Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle. Push a solid bead of sealant ahead of the nozzle, forcing it into the joint and ensuring full contact with both primed surfaces.

    As an Adhesive

Cut the nozzle at a 90° angle, then cut a 'V' notch in the tip to create a triangular bead. Apply to one surface, then press parts together firmly to compress the bead to no less than 2mm for optimal bond strength.

Timing: You have approximately 30 minutes of skin time at 23°C. All tooling must be completed within this window. Due to its high hardness, tooling can be more difficult than softer sealants.

Limitations & Safety

Product Limitations

!
Not suitable for internal swimming pool applications or areas with high chlorine exposure (maximum 5ppm).
!
Not suitable for structural glazing applications. Use a dedicated glazing silicone like Adheseal N-80 or N-60.
!
White colour may yellow when exposed to UV light. This is cosmetic and does not affect performance. Use Grey for colour-stable applications or paint over.
!
Not for use on natural stone without prior stain testing. For stone applications, use Adheseal S100.
!
Avoid use on bituminous surfaces, natural rubber, or EPDM, as leaching oils may interfere with adhesion.

Safety & Handling Requirements

!
Scheduled Substance

This material is a Scheduled Poison (S5 - Caution). It must be stored, handled, and used in accordance with all relevant regulations.

🧤
Personal Protective Equipment

Always wear protective gloves (Nitrile rubber recommended), safety glasses with side shields, and long-sleeved work clothing to prevent skin contact.

Emergency First Aid
Eyes:
Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. Then consult a doctor.
Skin:
May cause an allergic reaction. Immediately wash with soap and water. If skin irritation or rash occurs, get medical advice.
Inhaled:
May cause allergy or asthma symptoms. Remove to fresh air. If experiencing respiratory symptoms, call a POISON CENTRE or doctor.
Swallowed:
DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical advice.

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Phone Australia 131 126).

Substrate Preparation & Priming Guide

Porous Substrates (Concrete, Masonry, Brick, Timber)

Surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, and clean. Remove all dust, laitance, loose material, oils, and curing compounds. New concrete must be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days before application.

Primer required for optimal adhesion

For all structural, high-stress, or water-immersion applications, priming is mandatory. Apply one coat of Everflex Supaprime with a brush and allow it to become touch-dry (30 mins to 2 hours) before applying sealant.

Everflex Supaprime

Non-Porous Substrates (Metals, Aluminium, Fibreglass)

Ensure surfaces are meticulously clean, dry, and free from any oils or grease. Use a two-wipe process with a suitable solvent like Xylene. Lightly abrading the surface with a fine abrasive pad is recommended to maximise the bond profile.

Primer required for critical applications

For all high-performance and structural bonding applications, priming is essential. Pre-treat the cleaned and abraded surface with Adheseal 50A Surface Prep applied with a clean cloth. Allow 30 mins to 2 hours before applying the adhesive sealant.
