For levelling new or existing substrates before installing carpet, ceramic tiles, natural stone, or floating timber flooring, UC Leveller is a fast-hardening underlayment compound that flows easily and pumps efficiently. It handles thicknesses from 3 mm to 70 mm in a single application without significant shrinkage, providing a smooth surface capable of carrying heavy loads, including wheeled chair traffic.

What it does

UC Leveller is a cement-based compound that cures rapidly to prepare uneven subfloors for floor coverings. Formulated with fast-setting cements, silica sand, and resins, the wet mix maintains high fluidity for self-levelling and can be placed using automatic pressure pumps to increase daily productivity on large areas. It complies with EN 13813 as a Class CT-C25-F7 levelling compound, developing excellent compressive and flexural strength to resist impact, abrasion, and structural load under subsequent floor systems.

Numbers that matter

  • 3 mm to 70 mm thickness: The allowable single-coat range, providing bulk-filling capacity. Applications over 40 mm thick require the addition of 30% of 3-5 mm aggregate.
  • 24-hour floor installation window: Ready for installing ceramic, natural stone, floating timber, laminate, and textile floorcoverings after 24 hours (tested at 23°C and 50% Relative Humidity).
  • 12-hour foot traffic: Sets fast enough to accept light foot traffic within 12 hours of placement.
  • 20 to 30 minutes pot life: The working window at 23°C to mix, pour, and spread the batch before setting begins.
  • 1.8 kg/m² per mm consumption: The material estimation rate for calculating project coverage requirements.

Where to use it

  • Smoothing concrete slabs and cement-based screeds
  • Smoothing over existing ceramic tile, terrazzo, natural stone, and magnesite floors
  • Levelling subfloors with under-floor heating installations
  • Interior subfloor preparation before installing carpet, carpet tiles, ceramic tiles, natural stone, or floating timber

Limitations

  • Do not use externally, in internal wet areas, or over substrates subject to rising damp.
  • Do not use for levelling over timber substrates; use Ultraplan Renovation or Nivorapid mixed with Latex Plus instead.
  • Do not apply in thicknesses less than 3 mm.
  • Do not use at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C.
  • Do not add more water to the mix once it has begun to set, and do not add lime, cement, or gypsum.
  • If timber, vinyl, or rubber flooring is to be installed, UC Leveller is not the direct finishing layer; a minimum 3 mm coat of Ultraplan or Ultraplan Eco must be applied over the dried UC Leveller after priming with diluted Eco Prim T Plus.

Installation and surface preparation

Substrates must be dry, solid, and completely free of dirt, loose material, paint, wax, oils, rust, gypsum, and curing or sealing compounds. All curing and sealing compounds must be completely mechanically removed to achieve a minimum concrete surface profile of CSP #3. Cracks in cement substrates must be repaired first with Eporip. If a moisture vapour barrier is required, install Primer MF, Mapeproof 1K Turbo, or Planiseal MR before levelling.

Porous substrates must be primed with Eco Prim T Plus (diluted 1:2 with water) to prevent debonding and manage absorption; apply the leveller between 2 and 24 hours after priming. Non-porous surfaces (ceramic tiles, natural stone) must be cleaned of wax and primed undiluted with Eco Prim T Plus or Eco Prim Grip Plus. Magnesite subfloors require priming with Eco Prim T Plus.

To mix, pour 3.4 to 3.8 litres of clean water into a container and gradually add the 20 kg bag of UC Leveller. Mix at 300 RPM with an electric mixer until free of lumps, let sit for a few minutes, and remix briefly. Spread with a large metal trowel or float, or apply by pump. If a second coat is needed, apply it as soon as the first coat can be walked on (approximately 3 hours at +23°C). If the first coat dries completely (exceeding 24 hours), you must prime with Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 with water before pouring the next coat.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mapei UC Leveller suitable for exterior use?

No, UC Leveller is for interior applications only. It is not designed for exterior or wet areas, nor for substrates subject to rising damp.

How quickly can I install flooring over UC Leveller?

You can install most floor coverings after 24 hours at 23°C and 50% RH. Light foot traffic is possible in 12 hours under these conditions.

What is the maximum application thickness for UC Leveller?

UC Leveller can be applied in a single pass from 3mm up to 70mm. For layers above 40mm, incorporate 30% aggregate to maintain performance.

Is priming always necessary before applying UC Leveller?

Yes, priming is critical for proper adhesion and to prevent issues like pinholes. Use Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 for porous substrates, or undiluted Eco Prim T Plus or Eco Prim Grip Plus for non-porous surfaces.

Applications and benefits

Where Mapei UC Leveller is used, what it delivers, and who uses it
Application Key benefit Primary trades
Levelling and smoothing interior floors (3mm-70mm) Delivers a highly flat and strong substrate (C25-F7) for all common floor coverings, preventing callbacks. Flooring installers, Tilers, Builders
Preparing subfloors for under-floor heating systems Provides a stable, even layer that protects heating elements and ensures efficient heat distribution. Heating technicians, Flooring installers
Fast-track commercial and residential projects Rapid hardening (light traffic in 12h, tiling in 24h) and pumpable application accelerate project timelines. Commercial builders, Project managers, Flooring contractors
Reinstating damaged or uneven concrete slabs Fills deep imperfections (up to 70mm) in a single application, creating a durable, load-bearing surface. Concrete repairers, Building renovators

How to apply UC Leveller:

  1. Prepare the substrate by cleaning and priming as required.
  2. Mix UC Leveller with water to a homogenous consistency.
  3. Spread the mix with a metal trowel or float, or apply with a pump.
  4. For a second coat, apply after 3 hours or prime with Eco Prim T Plus if more than 24 hours have passed.
  5. Allow to dry for 12-24 hours before installing flooring.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Exterior use or wet areas. UC Leveller is formulated for interior, dry environments.
  • Not for: Substrates subject to rising damp. This can compromise adhesion and performance.
  • Not for: Application at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C. Performance is sensitive to application temperature.
  • Not for: Application in thicknesses less than 3mm. Minimum thickness is critical for proper self-levelling and strength development.
  • Not for: Use over timber substrates. The product is not compatible with the movement characteristics of timber.

Safety and handling

Personal protective equipment

Wear protective gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask during mixing and application.

Ventilation

Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area during mixing, application, and drying to prevent dust and vapour accumulation.

Storage and disposal

Store in original sealed packaging for up to 12 months in a dry environment. Dispose of waste material according to local regulations.

Substrate guide

Effective substrate preparation is critical for any flooring project. This guide outlines requirements for common surfaces before applying UC Leveller.

Concrete slabs and cement-based screeds

Surface prep: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, sound, and free from all contaminants, laitance, or weak material.

Primer: Required. Use Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 with water for porous surfaces.

Existing ceramic tile, terrazzo, and natural stone floors

Surface prep: Clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Degrease if necessary. Ensure all existing tiles are firmly bonded.

Primer: Required. Use undiluted Eco Prim T Plus or Eco Prim Grip Plus for non-porous surfaces.

Magnesite floors
