When durable, high-strength adhesion for road markers or carpark infrastructure is critical, and rapid return-to-service is non-negotiable. Megapoxy 36 DuoMix provides a two-component epoxy solution designed for the demands of traffic applications. It ensures reflective road markers, carpark stops, and parking sensors bond firmly to bituminous and concrete surfaces, standing up to impact and dislodgement with minimal traffic disruption.

Why this product exists

Megapoxy 36 DuoMix is a rapid-setting, two-component 1:1 epoxy resin system engineered specifically for bonding traffic infrastructure components. It addresses the need for a fast, reliable adhesive that can withstand the harsh conditions of roads and carparks. The twin cartridge system with a self-mixing nozzle simplifies application, making it ready for immediate use on site, reducing setup time and ensuring consistent mixing for optimal performance.

The numbers that matter

A bond strength of 7.5 MPa to ceramic and reflective markers ensures these critical safety components remain fixed even under constant vehicle impact and vibration. For concrete applications like carpark stops, Megapoxy 36 DuoMix achieves a bond strength of greater than 3 MPa. This exceeds the internal cohesive strength of most concrete, meaning the bond will typically outperform the substrate itself. Its impact strength of over 12 Joule provides resistance against direct strikes from vehicles, reducing the risk of dislodgement and repeat repairs. A rapid minimum cure time of 1 hour at 25°C means road surfaces can be reopened quickly, minimising traffic disruption and labour costs.

What it's like to use

Megapoxy 36 DuoMix is supplied in a 600ml twin cartridge with a static mixing nozzle, providing a convenient, ready-to-use system. The crucial 1:1 mixing ratio is handled automatically by the nozzle, but it is essential that both components are thoroughly mixed and dispensed until the material is a uniform colour to achieve full strength and prevent discoloration. Working time at 25°C is approximately 3 minutes, demanding efficient application. Substrates must be prepared by cleaning, degreasing, and mechanically abrading to remove laitance and improve adhesion. Concrete should be free from grease and oil, with surface laitance removed by mechanical abrasion like scabbling or grinding. Bitumen surfaces require degreasing or solvent washing to remove road grime. For tool and equipment cleanup before the epoxy cures, use Megapoxy Thinners.

Where this product excels

  • Bonding Reflective Road Markers: Secures ceramic, plastic, LED, and concrete road markers to both bituminous and concrete surfaces. This high-strength bond (7.5 MPa) resists traffic wear and environmental exposure, ensuring long-term visibility and safety.
  • Installing Concrete Carpark Stops: Provides robust adhesion to concrete substrates for carpark stops, resisting the constant impact and shear forces experienced in high-traffic carparks. The high bond strength and impact resistance (>12 Joule) maintain barrier integrity.
  • Mounting Parking Sensors: Offers a secure, chemically resistant bond for parking sensors to concrete surfaces. This prevents sensor dislodgement, a common issue in commercial and public carparks.
  • Fixing Delineator Signage: Delivers reliable adhesion for base-mounted delineator signage, with a significant slant shear load of 135 kN after 24 hours. This ensures signage remains upright and visible, guiding traffic effectively.

Choose this when

  • When installing road markers or carpark furniture where rapid setting and high bond strength are critical to minimise traffic disruption.
  • For bonding to both bituminous and concrete surfaces, requiring excellent adhesion and impact resistance.
  • When a convenient, pre-measured, and self-mixing cartridge application system is preferred for consistency and ease of use on site.
  • For projects requiring RTA specification 3554 compliance and Transport S.A. approval for road infrastructure.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Applications requiring extended work time; this product has a rapid 3-minute work time at 25°C.
  • Not for: General structural bonding applications beyond its specified uses for traffic infrastructure.
  • Not for: Deep crack injection where a low-viscosity, slower-curing epoxy might be required.
  • Not for: Damp or wet substrates; the product requires clean, dry surfaces for optimal adhesion.

Megapoxy 36 DuoMix meets the stringent requirements of RTA Specification 3554 and is approved by Transport S.A. for use in road infrastructure. This compliance ensures the product adheres to high standards for performance and durability in demanding traffic environments.

Specialised performance for specific jobs

Unlike general-purpose adhesives, Megapoxy 36 DuoMix is a rapid-setting, specialised 1:1 epoxy system designed for high-strength, impact-resistant bonding of road markers and sensors, delivered via a convenient twin cartridge with a self-mixing nozzle. This specificity ensures optimal performance and durability in demanding traffic environments. For other epoxy needs, Megapoxy offers alternatives like Megapoxy Megabond or Megapoxy E, each formulated for different application requirements and performance characteristics.

Step-by-Step Application Guide for Megapoxy 36 DuoMix:

  1. Preparation is Paramount: Ensure the substrate (concrete or bitumen) is completely clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove all oils, grease, dust, and loose debris. Abrade the surface mechanically (grind, wire brush) for best results. Ensure ambient temperature is above 10°C.
  2. Nozzle & Gun Setup: Unscrew the cap from the 600ml cartridge. Dispense a small amount to ensure both Part A and B are flowing. Wipe the outlets clean and screw on the static mixing nozzle. Load the cartridge into a heavy-duty twin cartridge gun.
  3. Application Technique: Squeeze the trigger to dispense the adhesive. Discard the first 50mm of product until the colour is a consistent, streak-free grey. Apply a suitably sized bead directly to the road marker or the substrate.
  4. Positioning & Curing: Firmly press the road marker or other component into the adhesive, ensuring good contact and a slight squeeze-out of material. The product has a work time of approximately 3 minutes at 25°C, so position items promptly.
  5. Clean-Up: Clean any uncured adhesive from tools or surfaces immediately using Megapoxy Thinners or a suitable solvent. Once cured, the product must be removed mechanically.
  6. Return to Service: Allow the product to cure. The area can typically be opened to traffic after 1 hour at 25°C. The bond will reach its ultimate strength over 24-72 hours.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Application below 10°C, as this will affect cure time and bond performance.
  • Not for: Use on coated surfaces without first removing all existing coatings, as this will result in inferior bond strengths.
  • Not for: Applications where poor mixing or incorrect ratio occurs; this will lead to lower physical properties, potential cure failure, and discolouration.
