Megapoxy 36 DuoMix is a rapid-setting, two-component epoxy adhesive specifically engineered for bonding ceramic and reflective markers to bituminous and concrete roadways. This thixotropic paste features an ultra-fast 3-minute work time at 23°C and develops a 1400 kPa cohesive strength within 30 minutes, allowing for immediate return-to-service and minimized lane closure windows.

Fully compliant with RTA Specification 3554 and approved by Transport S.A., it delivers over 7,500 kPa bond strength and 12 Joules of impact resistance to ensure structural integrity under heavy vehicle stress.

Frequently Asked Questions About Megapoxy 36 DuoMix

Q: How quickly can traffic drive over road markers installed with Megapoxy 36 DuoMix?

A: Under typical Australian conditions of 25°C, surfaces can be returned to service and handle traffic in as little as 1 hour. This time may extend to 2 hours at 15°C or shorten to 30 minutes at 35°C. The bond will continue to strengthen over the next 24 hours.

Q: Do I need to prime the surface before applying?

A: For most applications on sound concrete and bitumen, a primer is not required provided the surface is thoroughly cleaned and prepared. The key is to ensure the surface is free from all contaminants, dust, and loose material for a direct, high-strength bond.

Q: What happens if I don't use the static mixing nozzle?

A: Do not use this product without the supplied static mixing nozzle. The nozzle is essential for ensuring the Part A and Part B are thoroughly mixed in the correct 1:1 ratio. Attempting to mix by hand will result in an incomplete cure, drastically reduced strength, and product failure.

Q: How much coverage will I get from one 600ml cartridge?

A: Coverage depends entirely on the size of the bead and the application. It's best to calculate usage based on the volume required per marker or installation. A 600ml cartridge provides 600 cubic centimetres of usable adhesive.

Q: Can I use half a cartridge and save the rest for later?

A: Yes. If you finish applying, you can leave the static mixer on the cartridge. The material will cure inside the nozzle. To reuse, simply unscrew and discard the old nozzle, attach a new one, and you are ready to go again.

Applications Where Megapoxy 36 DuoMix Excels:

  • Highway & Arterial Road Markers: Its rapid cure and extreme durability make it the perfect choice for high-traffic, high-speed environments where performance and minimal downtime are critical.
  • Carpark Fit-outs: Ideal for installing surface-mounted parking sensors, wheel stops, and lane markers in commercial and residential carparks.
  • Delineator & Signage Installation: Provides a high-strength, permanent bond for the base of flexible delineator posts and small signage onto concrete or bitumen footpaths and medians.
  • Industrial Flooring Markers: Quickly and securely install safety and directional markers onto concrete floors in warehouses and factories.

Top Benefits of Using Megapoxy 36 DuoMix on Your Projects:

  • Maximum On-Site Efficiency: The combination of a no-mix cartridge system and a rapid 1-hour cure time drastically reduces labour time and allows your crew to complete jobs faster.
  • Guaranteed Performance & Reliability: The DuoMix system eliminates the number one cause of epoxy failure – incorrect mixing. This ensures you get the maximum engineered strength and durability on every single application.
  • Long-Term Durability: With exceptional impact, shear, and compressive strength, Megapoxy 36 DuoMix provides a permanent bond that resists the harsh conditions of Australian roads, reducing costly call-backs and enhancing your reputation.
  • Application Versatility: A single, reliable system for bonding markers, sensors, and signs to both of the most common civil substrates – bitumen and concrete.

Step-by-Step Application Guide for Megapoxy 36 DuoMix:

  1. Preparation is Paramount: Ensure the substrate (concrete or bitumen) is completely clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove all oils, grease, dust, and loose debris. Abrade the surface mechanically (grind, wire brush) for best results. Ensure ambient temperature is above 10°C.
  2. Nozzle & Gun Setup: Unscrew the cap from the 600ml cartridge. Dispense a small amount to ensure both Part A and B are flowing. Wipe the outlets clean and screw on the static mixing nozzle. Load the cartridge into a heavy-duty twin cartridge gun.
  3. Application Technique: Squeeze the trigger to dispense the adhesive. Discard the first 50mm of product until the colour is a consistent, streak-free grey. Apply a suitably sized bead directly to the road marker or the substrate.
  4. Positioning & Curing: Firmly press the road marker or other component into the adhesive, ensuring good contact and a slight squeeze-out of material. The product has a work time of approximately 3 minutes at 25°C, so position items promptly.
  5. Clean-Up: Clean any uncured adhesive from tools or surfaces immediately using Megapoxy Thinners or a suitable solvent. Once cured, the product must be removed mechanically.
  6. Return to Service: Allow the product to cure. The area can typically be opened to traffic after 1 hour at 25°C. The bond will reach its ultimate strength over 24-72 hours.

Important Limitations & Safety When Using Megapoxy 36 DuoMix:

Product Limitations:

  • Bonding to Coatings: Do not apply over paint or other coatings. Adhesion will only be as strong as the coating's bond to the substrate. For a structural bond, all coatings must be removed.
  • Incorrect Mixing: This product MUST be dispensed through the static mixing nozzle. Inaccurate mixing due to any other method will result in system failure.
  • Work Time: Be aware of the short 3-minute working time at 25°C. Plan your work in manageable sections to avoid product gelling before components are placed.

Safety First – Protecting Yourself and Your Workspace:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses (AS/NZS 1337.1) and chemical-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile, AS/NZS 2161). Wear long-sleeved clothing to avoid skin contact.
  • Ventilation: While VOC-free, it is still good practice to ensure adequate ventilation in the work area, especially if working in a partially enclosed space.
  • Safe Handling Practices: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while using. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
  • First Aid Essentials: For skin contact, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly. For eye contact, flush with copious amounts of water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full information.

Megapoxy 36 DuoMix Adhesion Profile – Compatible Substrates:

  • Bitumen: Excellent adhesion. Surface must be clean, dry, and free from road grime and oils. Mechanically roughening with a wire brush will significantly improve the bond.
  • Concrete (Cured): Superior bond strength. Ensure concrete is fully cured (min. 28 days) and free of laitance or curing compounds. Best practice is to grind or scabble the surface for maximum adhesion.
  • Ceramic & Plastic Markers: Bonds aggressively to the types of ceramic and plastics commonly used in reflective, non-reflective, and LED road markers.
  • Steel: Achieves a high-strength tensile bond (20 MPa). For best results, surface should be grit blasted or ground to a bright metal finish and degreased immediately prior to application.
