When your project demands a reliable, fast-setting seal for glass, aluminium, or general sheet metal work, you need a sealant that performs. SA Contractors Silicone delivers a rapid-curing, flexible bond that withstands the elements. It skins quickly, allowing for efficient tooling and ensuring your general glazing and sealing jobs are finished right, the first time.
Why this product exists
This is a one-part, 100% acetic cure silicone adhesive/sealant designed for general-purpose glazing and sealing applications. Its formulation focuses on long-term reliability where exposure to weather and UV is constant. Unlike slower-curing alternatives, its acetic cure provides rapid skin time, making it efficient on-site. The sealant retains its superior physical properties even after years of high and low temperature exposure, preventing premature seal failure and costly callbacks.
What it's like to use
Prepare surfaces by ensuring they are clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease, oil, rust, and water. Use white spirits or mechanical cleaning with a lint-free cloth; avoid soap or detergent. Once surfaces are clean, cut the nozzle to the desired bead width at a 45-degree angle. Apply the sealant with a gun and tool it immediately, ideally within the 5-10 minute skin time. For a clean finish, use masking tape and remove it before the sealant skins. Uncured sealant cleans up readily with mineral turpentine.
For joints, follow the 'half-width, half-depth' rule: joint depth should be half the width, with a maximum depth of 10mm. Ensure joint width is no less than 4mm. Use a closed-cell polyethylene backer rod to control depth and prevent three-sided adhesion, which is crucial for achieving the ±25% movement capability. If the joint is too shallow for a backer rod, use a polyethylene tape bond breaker.
