For external roof decks, balconies, and internal wet areas complying with AS-4858:2004 and AS4654.1:2012, Everflex HVUV Elastomeric Waterproof Membrane is a single-component, micro-fibre reinforced membrane formulated for exposed UV applications. It cures to form a seamless, fully bonded barrier that resists biological growth and does not re-emulsify when subjected to continuous water immersion.

How it works

Everflex HVUV uses a single-pack, water-based acrylic-styrene and polyurethane co-polymer chemistry reinforced with micro-fibres to achieve Class III high permanent flexibility. This high elasticity allows the cured membrane to accommodate structural movement without cracking. The formulation is self-reinforced, meaning it can span standard transitions without fabric reinforcement, though WPUV cannot span open gaps and requires a neutral-cure sealant fillet or joint band over active joints. Once cured, it is stable under continuous exposure to UV light and weathering, and it can withstand maintenance foot traffic without an additional protective screed.

Numbers that matter

  • Class III Elongation: High permanent flexibility designed to accommodate substrate movement without rupture.
  • 1.0mm Minimum DFT (Internal): The minimum dry film thickness required across internal applications to meet waterproofing standards, typically requiring 1.5 litres per square metre.
  • 1.3mm Minimum DFT (External): The minimum dry film thickness required to ensure long-term UV and weathering protection on exposed external areas.
  • 2.2g/m²/24h Permeability: Low moisture vapour transmission rate to prevent passage of water through the cured film.
  • 48 Hours Cure Time: Required drying time at 25°C and 50% relative humidity before tiling or finishing.

Where to use it

Suitable for installation over the following prepared substrates:

  • Concrete cured for a minimum of 28 days.
  • 3:1 sand cement screeds, C-Bed engineered screeds, and masonry or render cured for at least 4 days.
  • Cement sheeting, underlay, external weatherboard, and blue board.
  • Pre-cast concrete with all release agents fully removed or dissipated.
  • Wet area plasterboard and Villaboard.
  • Timber flooring including structural plywood Type A (PAA JAS-ANZ).
  • Brickwork and Hebel aggregate blocks.

Common applications include exposed roofs, pedestal system sub-floors, shower recesses, laundries, toilets, kitchens, patios, terraces, decks, balconies, and under-tile installations.

Limitations

  • Do not apply if the ambient or substrate temperature is below 10°C or above 35°C.
  • Do not apply on damp, wet, or contaminated substrates, or if rain is imminent.
  • Not suitable for structures subject to negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp.
  • Not suitable for traffic areas subjected to regular foot traffic heavier than standard maintenance access.
  • Light Grey has a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of approximately 0.32; adding up to 75ml of black Glycol tint will alter the colour and reduce this SRI rating.

Installation and system components

All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from protrusions, release agents, curing compounds, or dust. Non-structural cracks and holes must be filled prior to application. Apply a fillet of Adheseal Hi-Flex MS sealant to all internal corners and sheet joints. Floor wastes and puddle flanges must be rebated into the floor and sealed with Hi-Flex MS sealant.

For internal priming, use Everflex WBP. For external balconies and roof decks, prime with Everflex VBS. Apply the membrane within 2 to 24 hours of the primer becoming touch-dry.

Mix Everflex HVUV thoroughly before application. Apply the first coat with a brush or roller at approximately 0.75mm wet film thickness (WFT). Once dry, apply the second coat at a right angle to the first at 0.75mm WFT. Verify the wet film thickness during application using a WFT gauge to ensure the target dry film thickness (1.0mm internal / 1.3mm external) is achieved. For additional UV and mechanical protection, the membrane can be coated with LS slip-resistant UV protective coating.

Frequently asked questions

Can Everflex WPUV be used on external, exposed surfaces?

Yes, Everflex WPUV is specifically formulated for UV exposed applications. It is tested to AS4654.1 and AS4858 standards, making it suitable for exposed roofs, decks, and balconies, and will not re-emulsify.

What is the minimum dry film thickness required for Everflex WPUV?

A minimum dry film thickness (DFT) of 1mm is required for internal areas. For external applications, a minimum DFT of 1.3mm is necessary to ensure adequate waterproofing performance.

Is Everflex WPUV suitable for application over damp substrates?

No, do not apply Everflex WPUV on damp, wet, or contaminated substrates. The substrate must be free from surface water and continual dampness to ensure proper adhesion and long-term performance.

Does Everflex WPUV require a primer before application?

Priming is always recommended, especially on porous or warm surfaces. For internal applications, Everflex WBP is typically used, while Everflex VBS is recommended for external areas like roof decks and balconies.

Applying Everflex HVUV: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. 1. Surface Preparation

Ensure all surfaces are structurally sound, dry, clean, and free from oils, form release agents, laitance, and any contaminants. Fill holes and non-structural cracks with Hi-Flex MS or suitable filler.

    Concrete & Screed

Allow concrete to cure for 28 days minimum. Screeds must cure for at least 4 days. Surface must be dust-free and level.

    Timber & Sheeting

Timber and sheeting must be securely fixed with no movement. Joints should be sealed and internal corners filleted with Hi-Flex MS.

Timing: Ensure surfaces are completely dry before priming or coating.
Pro Tip: Use a moisture meter on concrete and screeds if unsure — HVUV is not designed for damp substrates.
  2. 2. Priming

Select the correct primer based on the substrate type and environmental exposure. Apply using brush or roller.

    Everflex WBP

Recommended for internal applications and timber surfaces. Allow to dry until touch-dry before applying membrane.

    Everflex VBS

Required for external areas like balconies, roof decks, and pedestal systems. Provides superior bond and vapour barrier.

Timing: Apply membrane within 2–24 hours of primer drying, depending on conditions.
Pro Tip: On hot surfaces or porous substrates, priming reduces pinholes and improves film uniformity.
  3. 3. Membrane Application

Mix Everflex HVUV thoroughly before use. Apply with brush or roller in two coats — each perpendicular to the last — to achieve the correct film build.

    Coat 1

Apply at 0.75mm wet film thickness. Use a wet film gauge to verify. Allow to dry before recoating.

    Coat 2

Apply at right angles to first coat, also at 0.75mm wet film. Ensure minimum dry film thickness of 1.3mm is achieved for external use.

Timing: Recoat within 24 hours. Allow 48 hours full cure before tiling.
Pro Tip: Embed polyester reinforcing fabric into wet first coat over joints, penetrations, and corners for added durability.
  4. 4. Detailing & Final Protection

Seal penetrations, puddle flanges, and terminations with Hi-Flex MS. For enhanced protection, especially in exposed areas, apply an optional UV slip-resistant topcoat (e.g., LS UV Coat).

    Penetration & Drainage Detailing

Use Hi-Flex MS sealant and install fillet beads where required. Ensure all outlets are recessed and membrane-lapped correctly.

    UV Topcoat (optional)

Apply LS UV Slip Coat for long-term durability and added resistance to wear from maintenance traffic or harsh weather.

Timing: Final detailing should be completed after membrane has fully cured (48 hours).
Pro Tip: Plan layout to avoid foot traffic over fresh membrane. Use protection boards during follow-up works.

Product limitations

  • Do not use: Below 10°C or above 35°C application temperatures.
  • Do not apply on: Damp, wet, or contaminated substrates, if it is raining, or if rain is imminent.
  • Not suitable for: Areas subject to negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp.
  • Foot traffic: Not suitable for foot traffic greater than maintenance level.
  • Gaps: WPUV / HVUV cannot span gaps. Use Adheseal Hi-Flex MS sealant for fillets, and Adheseal Elastoband or Butyl Tape systems for dynamic cracks/expansion joints.
