For waterproofing pipes, drainage outlets, and cabling penetrations in high-risk areas like tiled showers, balconies, planter boxes, or water features, Elastoproof Base Collars provide a prefabricated, elastomeric flange seal. These collars prevent water ingress at the vulnerable junctions where substrate movement, vibration, and thermal expansion typically crack standard liquid membranes or tear sealants away from the penetration neck.
How it works
Elastoproof Base Collars replace the need for caulkable sealants, removing the risk of adhesion failure at the pipe-to-substrate boundary. Built with high tear strength and 100% elastic recovery, the central rubber section stretches tightly around the penetration while the outer fabric edges embed directly into the wet membrane. This creates a continuous, high-movement joint that isolates the pipe's physical vibration and thermal movement from the surrounding waterproofing system. The system is compatible with all Gripset membranes, adhesives, and coatings.
Numbers that matter
-
100% elastic recovery: Absorbs continuous structural movement, pipe vibration, and thermal expansion in volatile areas without fatigue or tearing.
-
75% sizing rule: The central hole must be cut to 75% of the measured pipe diameter (e.g., a 30mm hole for a 40mm pipe) to ensure a high-tension, watertight seal around the circumference.
-
Small collar (120mm x 120mm): Dimensioned for sealing smaller service pipes and penetrations up to 50mm in diameter.
-
Medium collar (250mm x 250mm): Dimensioned for standard waste pipes and penetrations up to 110mm in diameter.
-
Large collar (300mm x 300mm): Dimensioned for heavy drainage and large penetrations up to 150mm in diameter.
Where to use it
Install on prepared and primed surfaces around penetrations in:
- Internal wet areas, showers, and laundries
- External roofs, decks, balconies, and podiums
- Planter boxes and garden beds
- Ponds, tanks, and water features
Installation critical steps
To prevent joint failure, the collars must be installed correctly into the wet membrane system:
- Measure the penetration diameter and calculate 75% of that measurement. Fold the collar in half and use the printed concentric semi-circle guides on the face to cut the exact circular hole.
- Test-fit the collar over the penetration first to verify a tight, sealing fit around the entire circumference.
- Apply a liberal coat of Gripset membrane to the substrate around the penetration, ensuring complete coverage to match the rear profile of the collar.
- Embed the collar into the wet membrane immediately. Do not allow the membrane to skin or dry before bedding the collar.
- Use a dry brush to work out any creases or trapped air pockets behind the fabric edges, ensuring 100% wet-out of the fabric.
- Apply a second coat of the liquid membrane over the top to fully encapsulate the collar fabric and seal it to the surface.
Limitations
- Not compatible with solvent-based materials, solvent-based adhesives, or solvent-based sealants.
