For sub-floor and wall installations where movement, joint squeaks, and sheet sagging are common installation problems, Multi-Grip Construction Adhesive provides a high initial grab acrylic bond. It complies with AS 2753 for fixing plasterboard wallboards and AS 2329 for fixing other wallboards, curing via moisture loss into a resilient, shock-resistant joint that accommodates natural timber drying without losing adhesion.
What it does
Multi-Grip Construction Adhesive bonds timber, plasterboard, metal, concrete F.C. Sheeting, and polystyrene foam. The water-based acrylic paste formulation has high initial grab to prevent slippage on vertical and overhead surfaces, and cures to a flexible state with 15% elongation at break. This flexibility helps absorb movement in sub-floors and wall systems. When applied to the grooves of tongue-and-groove flooring or to floor joists and wall studs, it helps prevent squeaking and warping as structural timber dries out over time.
Numbers that matter
-
AS 2753 and AS 2329 compliance: Meets Australian standards for fixing plasterboard and other wallboards to structural supports.
-
15% Elongation at break (7 days): Provides the elasticity required to accommodate minor movement in timber joists and wall studs without adhesive failure.
-
25-Minute skin time (at 25°C, 50% RH): Gives installers a reliable wet window to position and secure heavy panels with minimal movement.
-
47g/L VOC: Low-volatile organic compound formulation compliant with Californian Rule 1168 for indoor air quality during commercial fit-outs.
Where to use it
Multi-Grip is suitable for both interior and exterior construction applications, including:
- Bonding timber framing, studs, and joists.
- Installing wall sheeting, cornices, and internal or external mouldings.
- Fixing concrete F.C. Sheeting, plasterboard, and polystyrene foam components.
- Soundproofing installations and general-purpose gap filling.
- Reducing squeaks in tongue-and-groove timber sub-floors.
Installation limits
Ensure all substrates are clean, dry, and free of dirt. Sand any warped or twisted timber to achieve flush mating surfaces before application.
Apply a 6mm to 10mm bead of adhesive to the joists or studs. Where wall panels butt together, apply two parallel beads approximately 25mm apart. Lay sheets immediately into the wet adhesive with minimal sliding. Fasten the panels according to the flooring or board manufacturer's fixing instructions. A 6mm bead provides a coverage rate of approximately 9 lineal metres per 600ml sausage.
Wipe off any squeezed-out excess adhesive before it cures. Uncured material can be cleaned up from tools and surfaces with water.
Limitations
- Do not use on surfaces saturated with water; however, the adhesive will adhere to slightly damp surfaces.
- Not suitable for water immersion.
- Not suitable for laying strip flooring or parquetry floors.
- Apply only within a substrate and ambient temperature range of 5°C to 35°C.
