Hi Power Fast Grab Adhesive: A Product Overview

Adheseal Hi Power Fast Grab Adhesive is the solution for when you need strength and speed. This is a professional-grade MS Polymer adhesive engineered with one primary job in mind: to grab fast and hold strong. Its powerful initial tack significantly reduces the need for clamps, braces, or a second pair of hands, letting you work more efficiently. Hi Power isn't just about speed; it cures to form a high-strength, durable, and permanently elastic bond that can withstand vibration and deformation. Its versatility is unmatched, providing excellent adhesion to a huge range of materials including wood, metal, glass, stone, and plastics—even on slightly moist surfaces where other adhesives fail. It’s the professional’s choice for a powerful, reliable bond, without the wait.

400kg/m²
Initial Grab Strength. Securely holds heavy materials instantly, reducing the need for costly and time-consuming bracing.

Core Features & Specifications

  • Powerful Fast Grab: With an initial wet strength of up to 400kg/m², it holds items in place immediately, saving significant time by reducing or eliminating the need for mechanical supports during cure.
  • High Final Strength: Cures to a tough, elastomeric adhesive with a high shear strength (1.1 MPa) and tensile strength (1.02 MPa), ensuring a durable, permanent structural bond.
  • Bonds to Damp Surfaces: The advanced MS Polymer formulation provides reliable adhesion even on slightly moist, non-porous substrates, making it ideal for unpredictable site conditions.
  • Paintable with Water-Based Paints: Can be painted over once fully cured, allowing for a seamless and professional finish in decorative applications.
  • Excellent Weather & UV Resistance: Delivers a long-lasting bond for both internal and external applications without degrading under sun or weather exposure.

The Hi Power Advantage

  • Work Faster, Alone: The fast grab chemistry means you can fix heavy items like panels, mirrors, and signage without needing a second person to hold them in place.
  • Solvent & Isocyanate Free: A safer, non-toxic formulation with low VOC content that meets "Green Star" criteria and has a low odour for better workplace conditions.
  • Permanently Elastic: Unlike rigid adhesives, it remains flexible after curing (200% elongation), making it perfect for bonding materials with different expansion rates or those subject to vibration.
  • Non-Corrosive Formula: Chemically neutral, so it will not corrode metals like galvanized steel or attack sensitive surfaces like concrete or polystyrene foam.

Applications in Practice: Trade Scenarios

For Shopfitters & Installers: Mounting Heavy Wall Panels & Signage

The Professional's Challenge

Mounting heavy decorative panels, large mirrors, or signage often requires complex bracing or a two-person team to hold the item in place while the adhesive cures. This slows down the job and increases labour costs.

The Adheseal Solution

Apply Hi Power Fast Grab Adhesive in vertical, triangular beads to the back of the panel. Press it firmly onto the wall. The fast grab technology holds it in place instantly, allowing you to let go and move on. The high final bond strength ensures a permanent, reliable fix capable of handling vibrations and daily wear.

Best Practice Note

For the fastest grab, use the supplied triangular nozzle and apply the adhesive in a bead that is twice as high as it is wide. This shape ensures maximum surface contact and holding power when the item is pressed into place.

For Carpenters & Builders: Fixing Skirting, Architraves & Benchtops

The Professional's Challenge

Fixing timber or MDF mouldings requires a strong bond that won't let go, even on slightly uneven walls. You need an adhesive that grabs quickly to minimise nailing and provides a gap-filling, elastic bond that won't crack with movement.

The Adheseal Solution

Apply Hi Power Fast Grab Adhesive to the back of the skirting board or benchtop. Its thick consistency bridges minor gaps, while the fast grab holds the piece firmly against the wall, reducing the need for excessive nailing and subsequent filling. The permanent flexibility prevents the bond from breaking due to building movement.

Best Practice Note

This product is an MS Polymer that requires atmospheric moisture to cure. While it bonds to damp surfaces, do not use it in a totally sealed or confined space where it has no access to humidity, as this will prevent a full cure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How strong is the 'instant grab' of High Power 609 in practice?

The instant grab is exceptionally effective. For most vertical applications like wall panels, splashbacks, or decorative elements, Adheseal High Power 609 will hold the item in place immediately without slipping. This means you can often work without clamps or braces, saving significant time. For very heavy or overhead items, some temporary support is still a best practice until the adhesive develops its full cure strength.

Can I use Adheseal High Power 609 on damp timber or concrete?

Yes, one of the key advantages of High Power 609 is its ability to adhere to slightly moist or damp substrates. It is perfect for job sites where conditions are not perfectly dry. However, it is important to ensure the surface is free of standing or pooling water. The substrate should be damp, not saturated, for a reliable, long-term bond.

What is the cure time for High Power 609 before it reaches full strength?

Adheseal High Power 609 skins over in approximately 10-30 minutes, preventing dust contamination. It cures at a rate of about 2mm per 24 hours at 23°C and 50% humidity. Cure time can be faster in warmer, more humid conditions and slower in cold, dry weather. While the instant grab provides immediate hold, you should allow for the full cure before subjecting the bond to heavy loads or significant stress.

Do I need to use a primer with this adhesive?

For most common building materials, High Power 609 achieves excellent adhesion without a primer. However, for critical applications, highly stressed joints, or maximum long-term performance on non-porous surfaces like PVC and powder-coated metals, using Adheseal 50A Surface Prep is recommended. For porous substrates like raw concrete or brick, Everflex Supaprime can be used to ensure optimal adhesion.

Is High Power 609 suitable for exterior use in Australia?

Absolutely. It is specifically formulated with exceptional weather and UV resistance, making it ideal for exterior applications. It remains elastic and stable across a wide service temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, ensuring it performs reliably through hot summers and cooler winters without becoming brittle or losing its bond strength. It's perfect for external signage, cladding, and fixtures.

Applying Adheseal High Power 609: Professional Application Protocol

  1. Surface Preparation

A successful bond starts with a properly prepared surface. The substrate must be clean, dry or slightly damp, structurally sound, and completely free of contaminants.

For Non-Porous Surfaces (Metals, Plastics, Painted)

Use a two-wipe process. First, wipe the surface with a clean cloth soaked in a suitable cleaner like 100% White Spirits to remove oils and grease. Immediately wipe dry with a separate, clean cloth before the solvent evaporates.

For Porous Surfaces (Concrete, Masonry, Raw Timber)

Mechanically remove all loose and friable material using a stiff brush or grinder. Ensure all dust is removed by vacuum or air blower. New concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days.

Pro Tip: Never assume a surface is clean. A quick wipe-down can be the difference between a temporary fix and a permanent, professional bond.
  2. Adhesive Application

For maximum grab and final bond strength, the application technique is critical. Use a quality caulking gun for consistent pressure and flow.

    The Triangular Bead Method

Cut the nozzle to create a 'V' shape. Hold the caulking gun at a 90° angle to the substrate and apply the adhesive in vertical beads. This creates a triangular bead that is twice as high as it is wide, ensuring it compresses and spreads correctly when the item is pressed into place.

Bead Spacing: For panels and large items, apply beads 5 to 10cm apart, depending on the weight of the item.
  3. Bonding & Final Assembly

Once the adhesive is applied, you have a short window to complete the bond while the surface is still wet and tacky.

    Final Placement

Firmly press the item to be bonded onto the adhesive beads. The instant grab will hold it in place. Apply even pressure across the entire surface to ensure the adhesive spreads and achieves full contact, creating a final bond line of at least 2mm.

Pro Tip: Do not disturb the bond during the initial cure. While it holds instantly, full strength and elasticity develop over time. Clean up any excess uncured adhesive immediately with white spirit.

Adheseal High Power 609 Substrate Guide

Timber, MDF & Particleboard

Ensure timber is structurally sound, clean, and free of dust, oils, or any loose material. Surface can be slightly damp but must not have pooling water. For painted or sealed wood, ensure the coating is well-adhered.

No primer typically required

Excellent adhesion is achieved on raw and coated timber without a primer. For critical structural applications, a compatibility test is always recommended.

Metals (Aluminium, Steel, Powder-Coat)

Degrease the surface using a two-wipe process with a suitable solvent like 100% White Spirits. For powder-coated or anodised aluminium, lightly abrade the surface with a fine abrasive pad to create a mechanical key.

Primer recommended for optimal adhesion

For maximum bond strength and long-term durability, especially in exterior or high-stress situations, pre-treat the prepared surface with Adheseal 50A Surface Prep.

Adheseal 50A Surface Prep

Concrete, Stone & Masonry

Surfaces must be free of dust, laitance, and curing compounds. New concrete must be cured for at least 28 days. Wire brush or grind the surface to remove any loose or friable material.

Primer recommended for porous surfaces

While adhesion is good, priming porous materials will guarantee the best result. Apply one coat of Everflex Supaprime and allow it to become touch-dry (30 mins to 2 hours) before applying the adhesive.

Everflex Supaprime

Plastics (PVC, Fibreglass, Polyester)

Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any release agents or surface polish. A light abrasion is recommended for rigid PVC and polyester surfaces. Always conduct a small compatibility test as plastic compositions can vary.
